Young Professionals enjoy YPWeek events

The Young Professionals of Manitowoc County celebrated YPWeek with plenty of fun and exciting events that began with a Kickoff Party Saturday night at T2 in Green Bay. T2 hosted an evening of the arts showcasing the works of artists from across the state - paintings, sculptures, dance, music, interactive exhibits and edible culinary art.

Sunday afternoon, the YPs celebrated Earth Day by decorating flower pots with Glaze & Paint in the Roorbach Flowers greenhouse. They then planted flowers in the pots and delivered them to local nursing homes.

On Tuesday, the Young Professionals enjoyed a fun, hands-on evening at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. In addition to learning more about Two Rivers and Hamilton in a guided tour, attendees created a lakeshore-themed letterpress poster using vintage type from the museum's collection.

The YPs were invited to Lakeshore Technical College on Wednesday evening to for a seminar entitled, "Polish Your Professional Image." The seminar included two topics - "Effectively Working the Room & The Top 10 Habits of Turning Introductions Into Leads" with Diane Roundy of Schenck SC; and "Pump Up Your Profile" with Lindsay Harrison-Eirich of Engaged Marketing Co.

Thursday evening, the Young Professionals gathered at the Rahr-West Art Museum to "Sip, Sample & Socialize." Participants enjoyed fine food samples and beverages from local favorites as they explored the historic Vilas-Rahr mansion as well as galleries filled with pieces from some of the world's finest artists.

YPWeek concludes tonight with the "Sidewalk Stomp." where guests will tour Manitowoc's downtown venues.  Participating venues will have specials & giveaways as part of the event.  Participants will have a passport card which will be stamped for each venue which is visited, followed by a final get together of Young Professionals which will include a raffles for those with stamped passport cards. The Sidewalk Stomp will end with an after party at Courthouse Pub from 7:30 to 9:30 PM where passport cards will be collected and the raffles will be held. Starting location: Aspire Education Center. See the list of participating businesses!

Manitowoc County Historical Society

Manitowoc County Historical Society among most active in Wisconsin
The Manitowoc County Historical Society (MCHS), at 924 Pinecrest Road, Manitowoc, has been preserving the stories of our community for 112 years. What began as an effort to preserve our Civil War and pioneer past in 1906 has grown into one of the most active county historical societies in Wisconsin.
With their collection of artifacts scattered in barns and city buildings, the society saw the need to find a permanent home in the 1960s. Several sites were proposed for a historical village and agreements were made to acquire several buildings.
In 1969, the society accepted the donation of 40 acres of land from Hugo and Eleanor Vetting for the establishment of a historical village. Today, this 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of more than 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.
