Message from President

Greetings Soroptimists!

How does an Elephant get out of a tree?

Sits on a leaf and waits till Autumn!

Congratulations SI Chico Fundraising Committee and Club! The Delightful Evening of Dueling Pianos was completely delightful. Number one, it was REALLY FUN! Number two, we had a great crowd. Number three, we raised a lot of money! Well done all around. Thanks to all members who helped make the night a success.

Almost as much fun, will be our Business Meeting this week. Not to mention, After Hours on Thursday night and Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday. We know how to fill our time productively and keep ourselves entertained at the same time!

It's another great week to be a Soroptimist!

With Gratitude,

November Member of the Month
Renee Thatford

Hi, my name is Renee Thatford. I am a Native Californian, but not a Native Chicoan. I am originally from the Bay Area and came to Chico in 1991 to attend Chico State, as most of us do. I studied and graduated with my Bachelors in Social Work in 1996. After graduation, I worked in the social work field for a year, but soon realized social work was not my "thing." I also realized I was not done being a kid. So, in the summer of '97, I became a Girl Scout camp counselor in Bailey, Colorado. I came back to Chico after my summer adventure, but still heard Colorado calling my name. So, I packed up my Little Red 1990 Honda CRX and headed for Breckenridge, Colorado to become a ski bum for the season. During that season, I worked at a t-shirt shop and cashiered at the ski resort. However, shortly after my arrival in Breckenridge, I fell in love with a man named Dan, was engaged the following spring, and married April 17 th, 1999. We lived in Breckenridge for another year, but knew there wasn't much opportunity for us, so we moved to Chico and have been here ever since.  Together, we have a beautiful 16 year old daughter named Patricia, who is a junior at Chico High School and part of their Golf Team. Our family enjoys spending our summers camping on the weekends and skiing in the winter.

I have been a member of Soroptomist for the past 4 years and I look forward to many more years with Soroptomist.
