Have you seen our new Ambassador team, dressed in blue, training as a group on the streets recently? Say hello and introduce yourself to Brandon, Butterfly and Cody, who are joining Alina and Joanna in working to keep our downtown clean, safe & welcoming this fall!
Historically, the Downtown Association was only able to provide Ambassador services on Pacific Avenue and its side streets, with restricted funding from the Downtown Management Corporation (DMC) supported by property-owner assessments on specific blocks. Budget savings from cancelled events this year have allowed the Downtown Association to augment our DMC funding, and we are now expanding Ambassador walking service to Cedar Street, Center Street, Front Street, and north of the clock tower to River Street a few times a week to serve more of our member businesses and visitors in these areas, for the remainder of the fiscal year!
If Downtown Santa Cruz property owners enact a property-based improvement district (PBID) for the entire downtown as part of our economic recovery plan, we'll be able explore additional desired district services, such as: permanently expanded Ambassador coverage, including downtown south of Laurel Street, more sidewalk power-washing services, and an additional downtown Encompass social service outreach worker.
