Following announcements by Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean that they each would add a third seasonal homeported ship at Port Canaveral in 2014, Carnival Cruise Lines also has announced updates to its year-round three-ship fleet and itineraries. The 3,000-passenger Carnival Sunshine will replace Carnival Dream, becoming the Port's first Fun Ship 2.0 and launching eastern and western Caribbean cruises in April 2014. In May, a second Fun Ship 2.0, 3,000-passenger Carnival Liberty will replace the smaller Carnival Ecstasy to sail cruises to Key West and the Bahamas, the eastern Caribbean and, for the first time from Port Canaveral, the southern Caribbean. These changes offer Carnival guests cruise durations from three to eight days and 14 different destinations.

In addition to Carnival's homeported vessels, the cruise company announced that Carnival Miracle, Carnival Pride, and Carnival Splendor will make 2014 port-of-call visits. "Port Canaveral has been a valuable partner for more than 20 years and we're pleased to expand our operations from the Space Coast," said Gerry Cahill, Carnival President and CEO.

EXPLORATION OF NEW CRUISE TERMINAL UNDER WAY
As reservations come in for berth space in 2014 and beyond and as a result of discussions with the major cruise lines regarding their needs, the Port Authority is exploring feasibility and design criteria for an additional new terminal.

Several locations are under consideration. Factors in site selection include ease of navigation for the industry's modern mega-ships, smooth traffic flow for large numbers of arriving and departing guests and easy access for passengers to Port recreation/entertainment venues such as The Cove with its new visitor exploration center and Jetty Park's popular ocean beach.

The Board of Commissioners will review information gathered by Port staff later this fall and decide whether to approve a new facility. Using the efficient design-build system employed for Cruise Terminal 6, a new terminal could be open as soon as late 2014.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE NAMED IN WORLD SAVERS AWARDS
Disney Cruise Line (DCL), which homeports Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy at Port Canaveral, was named by Cond Nast Traveler magazine as a finalist in the 2013 World Savers Awards, which honor travel companies for achievements in supporting education and health, poverty relief, environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

Cond Nast summed up the cruise line's achievements in this way: "The company helps restore coral reefs, protect sea turtles, and educate guests on stingrays and whales. Onboard, the cruise line not only eliminates more than 405 tons of waste from rooms and restaurants every year, but it is also the first cruise line to utilize an innovative hull coating on its ships that is both 100 percent non-toxic and effective in increasing fuel efficiency by reducing surface resistance in
open water."
