HARBOR WIDENING AND DEEPENING MOVES FORWARD
With a favorable assessment from the Chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers(Corps), Canaveral Harbor has been included in the first draft of the U.S. House Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), legislation that authorizes the Corps to construct water infrastructure projects. When passed by the House, WRDA will go to the Senate. Port Canaveral officials will continue to work with leaders in Washington to secure this essential project's authorization.
With these positive steps, widening and deepening of Canaveral harbor will begin this fall. Completion of Phase 1 is expected in late 2014. To improve navigation for larger vessels, the channel will be widened by 100 feet and dredged an average of two feet to minus 44 feet. Early efforts already are under way to further deepen the harbor in the future to minus 50-55 feet.

CENTER SAILS TOWARDS OPENING
The much-anticipated exhibits are being moved into the new Cove attraction, which soon will have a new name with input from the public. Piece by piece, the exhibits are being assembled and installed to form the backbone of an exciting exploration experience. For example, on the third floor, a three-dimensional surf wall depicting coastal culture is taking shape by the nearly 80-seat theater. In the fifth floor's maritime area, an exhibit that enables visitors to try their hands at navigating a pilot boat through the Canaveral harbor to greet a cruise ship is operational. The attraction will open in a series of events to celebrate the Port's 60th anniversary next month.

The officers and crew of the Disney Fantasy joined DCL executives, including President Karl Holz (not pictured), and Captain Mickey himself to surprise Captain Forberg with the honor.
