CWA 2025 WORKCON CONFERENCE

HONORING OUR WORKFORCE CHAMPION

The Workforce Development Board of Madera County is proud to recognize our very own Board Member, Nichole Mosqueda, who was honored as the Workforce Development Professional of the Year at the California Workforce Association’s (CWA) 2025 WORKCON Conference, held on May 1st in Costa Mesa, CA.

Nichole has been a dedicated Board member since 2014 and is now the Chief Strategy Officer of Camarena Health. She has been instrumental in our efforts to improve Madera County's workforce development system by sharing her knowledge of strategic planning, business engagement, and skills training. We want to thank Nichole for her continuous dedication to our community and congratulate her on this great achievement.

STRENGTHENING SUPPORT FOR

JOB SEEKERS WITH DISABILITIES

The Workforce Development Board of Madera County is excited to announce that the Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation (MCWIC) has been awarded $814,757 for the DOR-AJCC Collaboration Project. This funding, provided by the California Employment Development Department (EDD) through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title IV, will support our continued efforts to serve individuals with disabilities in Madera County.

The project will focus on strengthening partnerships with the Department of Rehabilitation, CBO's and local employers, rebuilding staff capacity, and improving the coordination of services. These efforts aim to increase access to training, employment, and long-term job success for individuals with disabilities. The Workforce Development Board of Madera County is proud to lead this important work and looks forward to making a lasting impact on our community.

CLINICAL JOB FAIR

The Workforce Development Board of Madera County held two successful Clinical Job Fairs for Madera Community Hospital. The first event was held on June 3rd at the Hyatt Fresno, where more than 84 job seekers attended and interviewed for RN, LVN, and Nurse Practitioner positions, and received coverage from KSEE/KGPE news. The northern Clinical Job Fair followed on July 8th at Merced College, focused on Registered Nurse positions.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Hyatt and Merced College for hosting the event at their locations, and the Fresno Workforce Connection and Merced Worknet for their valued partnership. These job fairs provided healthcare workers in the Fresno and Merced communities to explore employment opportunities with Madera Community Hospital, reinforcing our commitment to supporting workforce growth in the region.

RAPID RESPONSE RESOURCE CLOSURE EVENT

In response to Rite Aid’s nationwide closure of approximately 1,184 stores, the Madera Workforce Business Services Division, Employment Development Department, Department of Social Services, and the California Department of Insurance held a Rapid Response orientation to support staff affected by local layoffs.

Rapid Response efforts aim to inform impacted staff to help find resources, employment, training services, and re-employment in the workforce system.
