Empower: Step Into Your Strength

Empowerment is not something that is given
to you. It is something you claim. As women business owners, we understand that better than most. We have navigated uncertainty, built something from nothing, and made decisions that others doubted and we kept going anyway.

That is empowerment in action.

Last month, we gathered at the Women Mean Business Conference — and what I witnessed in that room was nothing short of remarkable.

June Member Spotlight - Empower

What is one challenge you overcame that ultimately empowered you as a
business owner?

One of the most pivotal challenges I overcame as a business owner was learning when—and how—to let go of team members who did not align with our organizational culture. Early in my journey, I prioritized strong resumes and technical capability, assuming performance alone would drive success. Over time, I learned that even highly productive people can undermine momentum if they don’t share the company’s values, vision, and non‑negotiable standards. Those mismatches created tension, eroded trust, and diluted the culture I was trying to build. Making the decision to part ways was difficult,

Reconciled Solutions

One of the greatest challenges I overcame as a business owner occurred when my mother became ill in 2009 at the same time I had a newborn and was still in the early years of building my law practice. Just two years into launching my firm, I was pulled in every direction—caring for my family, wanting to breastfeed my newborn, and scaling up my law practice. There were moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, and fear, but that time in my life taught me better time management, and prioritization.
