Holiday Tips For A Greener Office Party!

For your next office holiday gathering, making a few small changes can equal big environmental benefits. To get you started on reducing holiday waste, here are some ideas:

  • Bring in potted plants to decorate and exchange as gifts and use LED holiday lights on a timer.
  • Email all party invitations and event fliers.
  • Use durable dishware and cloth napkins or hire an all inclusive catering service.
  • Create a reusable dish and silverware kit for year-round office meetings and parties by asking staff to donate unwanted plates, coffee mugs, glassware, etc.
  • Have a vegan and vegetarian potluck challenge using only local and seasonal foods.
  • Share leftovers with office mates and compost all food scraps.

Environmental Education Grants

The EPA is offering grants for up to $3 million in funding for locally-focused environmental education projects under the 2020 Environmental Education Grant Program.

Groups interested must submit their application by Jan. 6, 2020, to be considered. Funding will go to project recipients who are focusing on environmental awareness and stewardship including pressing issues such as food waste and marine plastics.
