The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce announced that 52 small businesses located in Flint and Genesee County were awarded $5,000 grants each from the Michigan Small Business Relief Program to help ease some of the financial damage caused by the COVID-19 virus.
Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II was joined by former Lt. Governor, and current president of the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) Brian Calley and Bob Doyle, president and CEO of the Michigan Association of CPAs, in launching a new statewide website, MIpaycheckprotection.com , to provide businesses with key resources to assist with the PPP application and loan process and ensure the greatest amount of federal funding is able to be used by small businesses for economic relief efforts throughout the state.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-36, prohibiting all employers from discharging, disciplining, or otherwise retaliating against an employee for staying home from work if they or one of their close contacts tests positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms of the disease.
To help control the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Director Robert Gordon issued an Emergency Order on April 2 setting a civil penalty of up to $1,000 and a process for referral to licensing agencies for violations of Executive Orders 2020-11, 2020-20 and 2020-21.
Rapid-response grants were announced by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint (CFGF) to four nonprofit organizations providing services to vulnerable populations in Flint and Genesee County. Grants were awarded from the newly established Greater Flint Urgent Relief Fund in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Carriage Town Ministries is looking for assistance to help homeless patients that come to Hurley Medical Center's ER who are awaiting COVID-19 test results and need a place to quarantine.
