President Lindsey called the meeting to order. Total attendance: 22, members 21 and 1 guest, speaker Danielle Gates. Nice to see John Klaas and Bill Grant back from "up north."
Well wishes to Bruce Boyd who recently had surgery and will be home soon. 

50/50-Barbara had the winning ticket today, she did not however pull the ace of hearts. 

5th Tuesday Social- The next date is October 29th. We're doing a service social at United Way, 5:30pm-7:30pm. We'll be  having pizza and making some fleece blankets for Children's Network of SWFL. Sign up at a meeting or send Lindsey an email. 

Interclub: First one is scheduled for November 6th at 12:00pm. Meeting is with the Fort Myers Club. They meet in the AAA building on Colonial.

Oasis Reading/Mentoring (Stewart Ross) weekly at Orangewood  Elementary on Wednesdays  9:30am-10:10am. Please let Stewart know if you can help. Four volunteers are needed each week. Come make a difference! 

Atlas Delivery Volunteers needed. Soon we will begin delivering atlases to children in 4 elementary schools that we sponsor. We'll need a couple of members to come and help hand them out at each one. It's a short duration event but you just have to see the smiles on faces of the kids!  What to do: sign up to attend, wear your club name tag and a Kiwanis shirt if you have one.  You'll need to bring a photo ID when you sign in at the office. 

Orangewood Elementary delivery is Monday October 28th at 9:15am. Todd will have the books, Erin and Stewart have volunteered to help. 
Littleton has confirmed their date and time for Thursday October 31st at 9:15am. If you can help, see Kim.

President Lindsey recognized Bill Grant for his years of service as a board member. Thanks Bill for your years of service and guidance, your leadership as a member of the old Iona-McGregor club and your efforts year-round with our club. 

Trunk or Treat is Oct 31st at Hunter Park (can be seen off Summerlin in the Pine Manor Community). We'll decorate a car and hand out candy as well as other items we have on hand. This event is for local families in the neighborhood to participate in a safe Halloween event. Bring any candy by October 29th. We'll be gathering at 4pm. Let Kim know if you can help. 

MS Support Group(Bill Grant), meets 3rd Thursday of each month at St. Hilary Episcopal Church. 

Literacy Buddy  Calling all "buddies." You will be paired with a child (age 4-5). Three times a year you will get a letter from your child and a few notes from his/her teacher describing the type of book they would like to have. You purchase the book and it goes to your child.   Start by signing up:     In the section where it says preferred school write in Metro-McGregor Kiwanis Club. You should have received your first letter from your buddy. Books are due to the children; Nov 15th (first book), Jan 17th (second book) and April 17th, (third book). 

November 9th-Rescue Runway. We'll have a booth at an event for Children's Advocacy Center that will be held at Bell Tower. Aktion Club will be selling some of the dog toys they are making and dog treats from the LaBelle Club. We are looking for 6 volunteers to help with the event. Arrive 10-10:15am, event is 11am-2pm.  Karen Hurst will supervise our table. 

                                        SLP's (Service Leadership Programs) 
Aktion Club-(Karen Hurst) at LARC. Meets 2nd Tuesday at 8:30am, year-round. They are collecting bottle caps as well. Bring in clean/used T-shirts for Karen to take as they are making more dog toys.

             Today's Presentation: Businesses Supporting Communities
Our speaker today was Danielle Gates, President.  Businesses Supporting Communities LLC was founded in 2014 with the goal of impacting the Southwest Florida community by empowering local businesses. They believe that when businesses succeed, the community succeeds. They coordinate community events which promote and support local businesses while also contributing to a local charity. After being approached by the City of Fort Myers to bring a large scale event back to Downtown, their first event was the WINK Taste of Lee in November of 2014. Currently, they are holding nine events throughout Southwest Florida. Volunteers receive money for every hour they works for their charily of choice.
