The Paved Trails will be Busy

The next couple of weeks will be busy around the Club.

As usual, we have another full Summer Bike Camp with an amazing group of kids and coaches making the most of the trails. At the same time, our paved trail network and biathlon range will be well utilized by a variety of local and visiting athletes. Training groups from Biathlon BC's Talent and Development Teams, the Biathlon Alberta Training Centre (BATC), and Sovereign Nordic will all be on site throughout the week. We will also be hosting the IBU Summer Series Roller Ski Event this weekend.

As a result, members will notice additional signage, stanchions closing trails, volunteers monitoring trail crossings and increased activity around the facility. Roller skiers have the right of way on the paved trails. Please remember that roller skis do not have brakes, but your bike does. Your patience and awareness help keep everyone safe.

These camps and events will be taking place from July 20–26. If you are heading out for a ride, this is a great opportunity to explore some of our fantastic upper singletrack. Consider climbing via Curves and Espresso, then returning on Inside Passage, Home Run, or Tin Can. This route provides an epic ride while avoiding paved trail crossings and minimizing interactions with training groups.

Thank you for helping us create a safe and welcoming environment for all trail users. We are proud to see our facility being used by athletes from across Western Canada while continuing to provide outstanding opportunities for our local community.

IBU Roller Ski Event Coming to Caledonia!

All the Info you are looking for

It's not too late, we can find you a cool job. As you know, Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is super pumped to be hosting the IBU Summer Series Roller Ski Event on July 25–26, welcoming athletes and coaches from across Western Canada to our facility.

We are looking for volunteers to help make the weekend a success. Whether you can spare a few hours or a full morning, we would love to have you on the team.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Timing and results
  • Trail crossings
  • Course control
  • Start and finish area
  • Athlete and spectator support
  • General event assistance
  • And all of those other jobs that seem to appear at every event!

No experience is necessary. You might even see me out there!! We have a great group of volunteers and experienced leaders who will make sure everyone is comfortable in their role.

The event takes place in the mornings only, so there is still plenty of time to enjoy an afternoon ride, hike, trail run, or round of disc golf after your shift.

Events like this would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. If you would like to be part of the team or have any questions, please contact us at:

Thank you for helping us showcase Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and everything our facility has to offer.

Official Paved Trails Opening Invitation

After a few solid years of planning, construction, and an incredible amount of support from our community, we are excited to officially celebrate the opening of Caledonia Nordic Ski Club's new Paved Roller Ski and Biathlon Trail Network.

We would love to have our members join us for this special milestone.

Official Opening Ceremony

Friday, July 24, 2026

10:30 a.m.

Otway Nordic Centre

The morning will include a welcome from Lheidli T'enneh Chief Dolleen Logan, remarks from community and government representatives, an official ribbon cutting, and demonstrations showcasing our new roller ski and roller biathlon facilities.

Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to stay for a free public try-it event. Whether you are curious about roller skiing, want to see the new trails up close, or simply want to celebrate this exciting addition to our Club, we hope you will join us.

This project represents much more than a paved trail. It creates new opportunities for recreation, athlete development, competitions, and year-round programming while positioning Caledonia Nordic as one of only three dedicated roller ski facilities in Western Canada. Most importantly, it is a project that would not have been possible without the support of our members, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and community.

We hope to see you there as we celebrate this exciting milestone together.

Supporting Summer Operations?

One of the questions we hear most often during the summer is, "How can I contribute to summer operations?"

First of all, thank you for asking. It means a lot to know that so many people value what we have built together.

Our Club has become a true four-season destination. Whether you are trail running, mountain biking, hiking, playing disc golf, roller skiing, roller skating, pushing a run bike with the kids, or simply enjoying a walk through the forest, every trail, bridge, sign, and feature requires ongoing care and maintenance.

If you have been looking for a way to give back, we have made it easy. Donation signs are now posted throughout the facility and on our trail networks. Simply scan the QR code or visit the online donation page and choose an amount that works for you.

There is no expectation and no minimum amount. Every contribution, whether it is a few dollars or something more, helps us maintain trails, improve the facility, and continue expanding year-round opportunities for everyone.

If you are not able to contribute financially, that is okay too. Say hello to a volunteer, pick up a piece of litter, encourage a friend to visit, or simply enjoy the trails. Every one of those things helps build the community that makes Caledonia Nordic such a special place.

Thank you for supporting your Club. We could not do it without you.

Interested in Helping Shape the

Future of Your Club?

Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is built on the dedication of volunteers, and one of the most important volunteer roles each year is serving on the Nominating Committee.

As we begin planning for our upcoming Annual General Meeting in October (which comes very quick), we are looking for three members to join this year's Nominating Committee.

The committee plays an important role in identifying and encouraging members who may be interested in serving on the Board of Directors.

We are fortunate to have a Club with talented members who bring a wide range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. The Nominating Committee helps ensure those individuals have the opportunity to become involved.

This is a short-term commitment leading up to the AGM. Committee members will work together to:

  • Identify potential Board candidates.
  • Connect with members who may be interested in serving.
  • Present a recommended slate of nominees to the membership.

Whether you have been involved with the Club for years or are a newer member looking for a meaningful way to contribute, we encourage you to consider putting your name forward.

If you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee or would like to learn more about what is involved, please contact me at gm@caledonianordic.com.

Strong organizations are built by engaged members. If you have been wondering how you can make a difference, this is an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Already Excited to Join the Board??

Perhaps you have been reading about the Nominating Committee and thinking, "I might actually be interested in serving on the Board."

If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Caledonia Nordic Ski Club has grown into one of the largest Nordic clubs in Canada, and that success is built on the dedication of members who are willing to share their time, ideas, and expertise. Our Board of Directors plays an important role in guiding the Club's future, supporting our staff, and ensuring we continue to provide outstanding programs, facilities, and events for our community.

You do not need previous Board experience to serve. We are looking for members who care about the Club, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to make a positive contribution.

Expressing your interest does not commit you to running for a Board position. It simply starts the conversation and gives the Nominating Committee an opportunity to connect with you, answer your questions, and discuss what serving on the Board involves.

If you have been thinking about getting more involved, this is a great opportunity to take that next step. Please contact me at gm@caledonianordic.com, or speak with one of our Board members. We would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to help shape the future of Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Remarkable Ace!!

There are good rounds of disc golf... and then there are rounds that become part of Club history.

For those who have played the Otway Disc Golf Course, you know that Hole 11 is no gimmie. It is a blind hole that requires a well-placed tee shot and, if we are being honest, maybe a little luck.

Well, on Sunday, July 19, our very own Office Manager, Aaron O'Hearn, stepped onto the tee pad (beautifully built by Jim Van Bakel), took a deep breath, launched his drive... and aced it!

That is right. One throw. Big backhand bank, slammed into the basket.

To make the story even better, our group has a tradition of putting $10 into an ace pot every round, with the pot being paid out once every three years. As luck would have it, this was the day the ace pot was up for grabs. Talk about perfect timing! He made $40 from us!!

Congratulations, Aaron, on an incredible shot and a memory that will be talked about around Otway for years to come. I totally forgot about the Michael O'Hagan Ace of 2025 on the same hole (different basket position).

Congratulations to Stride & Glide!

If you have not heard the news, our friends at Stride & Glide Sports have officially moved into their new home at the former PGI Foods location.

We have had the opportunity to stop by, and all we can say is... wow! The new space looks fantastic. It is bright, welcoming, and provides plenty of room to showcase everything they have to offer.

Stride & Glide has been a tremendous supporter of Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and the Nordic community for many years. From helping members find the right equipment to supporting events, programs, and athletes, they have always been there when we needed them.

On behalf of everyone at Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, we would like to congratulate the entire Stride & Glide team on this exciting new chapter. We wish you continued success in your new location and look forward to many more years of working together.

If you are in the neighbourhood, stop in, say hello, and check out their beautiful new store. We think you will be just as impressed as we were.

New Location:
