CATHOLICS AS POLITICALLY HOMELESS? Thursday, September 19, 7pm-8pm in Cathedral Hall. The Cathedral’s Faithful Citizenship election series continues with Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver presenting on “Catholics as Politically Homeless?”. He will share the tensions, as he has experienced them, between his Catholic faith and his participation in the public sector. The October synod stated: “Prophetic denunciation of situations of injustice, on the one hand, and efforts to persuade policy makers to act for the common good, which require recourse to diplomacy, on the other, must be maintained in a dynamic tension so as not to lose a clear focus or fruitfulness.”

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A middle aged woman greeted us warmly when we visited her home. She proudly showed us her new apartment and shared the news about a new job that would be starting soon. The story she shared about overcoming addiction and being ready for a fresh start, inspired us. The expense of moving, however, made her short of funds to meet the current month's rent.. It was for this reason this neighbor called the SVdP Helpline (206-767-6449 or apply online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). The assistance we gave helped the woman pay the current month’s rent. Thank you for being our partner in this ministry. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

THE SEASON OF CREATION September 1 to October 4 “We are in the middle of an ecumenical celebration of the gift of our earth. It is also a time to reflect, pray and take action to care for our common home. Our Catholic social teaching calls us to respond to the urgent cry of the earth and the poor who are gravely affected by climate change. This year’s theme, To Hope and Act with Creation, invites us to spend time reflecting on how we—as individuals and communities—can care for the Earth. The Earth in all its beauty and wonder is not an unlimited resource. It requires appreciation that leads to gratitude to God for all that is available to us, for sustenance and enjoyment. We are also responsible for the protection and careful stewardship of all the Creator has given to sustain the one human family.”—Archbishop Etienne.
