Dear Friends of the Lake County Land Trust,

This spring has been a whirlwind! Thanks to your enduring support, the Lake County Land Trust (LCLT) team has spent an inspiring month protecting our local natural resources through education, community outreach, and collaboration.

Here is a look at what we achieved together this past month:

🐟 Community Science Contributions

LCLT staff completed our second year of participation in the County of Lake Clear Lake Hitch Public Observations Surveys at two sites; Manning Creek on the Kuhlanapo Wetland Preserve and Kelsey Creek at the Main Street Bridge. This data will be useful in hitch recovery efforts.

🌱 Cultivating Conservation Through Education

We brought hands-on nature education to Kindergarten and middle school students at Lakeport Unified School District. We also hosted community learning events at Boggs Lake Preserve and Kuhlanapo Wetland Preserve (recap images below).

🀝 Strengthening Community Alliances

Nature thrives when we work together. We teamed up with the Redbud Audubon Society, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the Lake County Poet Laureate, and the Blue Wing Restaurant & Saloon for our successful Spring Benefit (check out the photos below).

β˜• Honoring Our Dedicated Supporters

We gathered at the Rodman Preserve for our annual State of the Land Trust Coffee to celebrate you. Supporters who contributed $100 or more enjoyed refreshments while getting an inside look at our latest major accomplishments and future strategic plans.

Every presentation, student smile, and protected acre is a testament to what we can achieve together. We truly cannot do this work without you.

Kindergarten Field Day FUN!

With partners from the Redbud Audubon Society and the Children's Museum of Art and Science (CMAS), we hosted four interactive educational tables showcasing the diverse wildlife of Lake County for 120 Lakeport Unified School District (L.U.S.D.) kindergarteners during their field trip to Lakeside County Park in Lakeport.

ROCK 'N WALK Success at Boggs Lake!

On April 18, we teamed up with The Nature Conservancy and the USGS for a fascinating "Rock 'n Walk" event at Boggs Lake Preserve. Dr. Seth Burgess (USGS) kicked off the day with an entertaining, easy-to-understand overview of Lake County’s volcanic geology. He then led the group on a guided hike, using local rock specimens to reveal the ancient history and age of the area.

ο»Ώ

Dr. Burgess also shared how his current rock collection efforts will help the USGS lab at Moffett Field pinpoint the exact age of our local landscape.

Wild About Nature: Family Fun Day Recap!

On May 23, we partnered with the Redbud Audubon Society to host a vibrant, family-focused day of outdoor exploration at the Rodman Preserve. Visitors of all ages connected with nature through a variety of engaging activities. Attendees explored the indoor Nature Center, browsed educational presentation booths outdoors, and hit the open trails for a scavenger hunt hike. The community wrapped up the successful day of adventure by relaxing with refreshments on our shaded porch.

Professor Harry Lyons helped visitors identify fasinating microscopic life.

Volunteer, Angie Siegel, helped families learning interesting facts about birds.

Thank you to Redbud Audubon Society President, Donna Mackiewicz and husband, Richard for the awesome displays and all the set up.

The Nature Center was open with skulls, furs, and games to interact with while learning about our natural world.
