Buxom Cat Knits
Pop-up Shop
August 10-11
Come meet Cathei from Buxom Cat Knits and pick your favorite colors of her wonderful yarns! She'll be at the shop Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11 with a whole lot of skeins of pretty.

You seem to love these yarns as much as we do -- we sold out of the last batch we brought in! We can't wait to see what Cathei's cooked up for us this time. There are sure to be a lot of skeins that we covet, but we'll let you have first dibs.

You don't want to miss this!
Time to get ready for our
Annual Refresh Your Stash Event!
Your unwanted stash can be another's treasure.
And you can earn credit towards wonderful new things!
Sign-ups are open now!
If you've been a fan of the shop for a while, you're probably familiar with our annual Stash Sale. It happens every year over the three-day Labor Day Weekend and there are bargains galore!

But more than a way to get great stuff at bargain basement prices, it's also your annual opportunity to clear out some of your stash. You know, that stuff you bought way back when and now you look at it and you're not sure why you have it. Or maybe the leftovers from some projects that you couldn't bear to throw out, but you have no idea if you'll ever use them, either.

Whatever the reason you've become disillusioned with part of your stash, our annual event is your chance to turn your unwanted goods into new things!

Here's how it works:

  • Call to reserve a spot. We need to have an idea of what's coming in so we ask that you call to get on the list for selling your items. So before you start bagging and tagging all your unwanted stash, call the shop at 503-227-7746 and sign up. It'll help us get ready.

  • Cull your stash! Go through your stash and pull out all the yarn, fiber, bags, books, and assorted accessories you can part with. As long as it has to do with knitting, crocheting, weaving, or felting, it's all good. Please frog any partially-knit items and wind the yarn into balls. Fiber is very popular at the sale! VERY IMPORTANT! Before you bag and tag yarn and fiber, please do a thorough check to ensure that its clean -- no raw fleece allowed -- and that there is absolutely no evidence of bugs (like dead bugs or hatched casings or any of that yucky stuff). Anything we find that looks suspicious will be thrown out very quickly and you will not get credit for it.

  • Bag it. Get some plastic bags, ZipLoc or whatever brand you like, and put items into them. Bags must be sealed and preferably be the type that can be opened and resealed fairly easily. Anything that's not "bagged and tagged" will not be accepted. Got a sweater's worth to destash? Look in the storage section at Fred Meyer or Target or wherever for the 2-gallon storage bags. Think about bundling small bits together -- a bag of sock yarn leftovers could be really useful to someone making a crazy-quilt blanket -- or mixing colors of a particular brand of yarn, or whatever strikes your fancy.

  • Price it. Put a price on each bag. As a guideline, pricing should be a 40-60% discount off the manufacturer's suggested retail price. You can use Ravelry to get pricing ideas if you don't remember what you paid for the item. It is much preferred if you do groups of price points. For example, a group of bags priced at $5, another at $7, a third group of $10 bags, and so on. Even numbers are easiest for us (instead of $9.99, please price at $10, for example).

  • Identify it. You do not need to put your name on every bag. In fact, we discourage that. Just put a sheet of paper in the box or garbage bag or whatever you use to bring your stuff to the shop with your name, email, phone number, email address, and a list of price points and number of bags you have at each of them. Example: $1 bags = 6, $5 bags = 10, and so on. There's no need to itemize what's in each individual bag; pricing is all that's needed on the label. If you have more than a large trash bag full of bagged-and-tagged items, please contact us before bringing it in. Space is at a premium and we want everyone to have a chance to participate.

  • Bring it. Put all your bags into a bigger bag or a box and bring them to the shop between Tuesday, August 20 and Sunday, August 25. IMPORTANT: No items will be accepted after Sunday, August 25.

Then our work starts. We'll use our computer system to assign a code to each of your items, including the price you're asking for it, and put corresponding stickers on each bag.

Labor Day Weekend, August 31 - September 2, we'll have a Super Stash Sale where all your goodies become available to shoppers. And yes, we'll be open on Monday, September 2nd! Folks will get to peruse all the bags of destash you and others bring in and get some great bargains to enhance their own stash. This sale coincides with the annual  Art in the Pearl  fine arts show and sale, which we highly recommend you check out while you're here.

Items that do not sell will be donated to charity. Nothing will be returned to you. Please note, there will be no receipts for deducting the charitable donations. If you would like to have a receipt, please donate directly to the charity of your choice and get one that way. We simply can't sort things back out again and don't want the charities to have to write multiple receipts, either. Charities we donate to include S.C.R.A.P., R.E.A.C.H. Portland, and the Africa House.

After the sale, and no later than September 15th , we'll run reports on the computer to total up how much of your stuff sold.  We'll deduct an administrative fee of 35% , and notify you of the shop credit balance you've earned. Then you are free to refresh your stash with new stuff! Just let us know you're on the stash sale list when you check out and we'll apply your credit.

IMPORTANT: Your stash sale credit expires on December 31, 2019 , so don't hesitate to use it or you'll lose it!
That's all there is to it! It's a great opportunity for some of your stash to end up in a loving home where it will be put to good use and for you to refresh your stash with new stuff!

Remember, you need to get your goods to the shop
no later than
Sunday, August 25th.

And of course, whether or not you have stash you'd like to part with, you'll want to come check out the sale August 31 - September 2  and look for bargains. There should be lots of perfectly good yarn and accessories looking for loving homes. :)
There's always fine print, right? Here's ours.

  • We reserve the right to limit the amount one person can bring to the sale and/or to stop accepting items at any time.
  • Your earned stash sale credit can be used towards any purchase in the shop except spinning wheels. Stash sale credits expire December 31, 2019.
  • During the sale, gift cards and any other form of shop credit cannot be used to purchase stash sale items.
  • All sales of stash sale items are final; no returns.
