You might not know but English cucumbers were developed to solve some of the poor attributes of regular table cucumbers. Regular cucumbers have a tough outer skin, kind of chewy, whereas English cucumbers have a very thin skin that is easy to chew. The skin is so fragile that they have to wrap them to have a reasonable shelf life. English cucumbers also have small seeds so they are easier to chew and digest. You don’t even notice them when you are eating them. English cucumbers boast a mild flavour and a nice crunch. My mother used to peel them, slice them thin, bathe them in a vinegar solution with a pinch of sugar for tangy treat.
