Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, of Friendship-West Baptist Church, recently announced 100 Days of Buying Black in acknowledging the 100th Commemoration of the Tulsa Race Massacre. The 100 days began September 23, 2021, and run through December 31, 2021. In the call, Friendship-West is “committed to economic justice in supporting Black-owned businesses, advocating for just lending practices, and working towards comprehensive sustainable community development.” On the FWBC Facebook page, it reads: “Our goal is to continue the legacy of Black Wall Street by circulating our dollars within the Black community to strengthen our economic base.” We are joining the movement and you can too at www.texasmetronews.com and https://www.facebook.com/groups/100daysofbuyingblack

National Urban League Applauds the Biden Administration’s Student Loan Repayment Extension Announcement
Washington, D.C. -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s announcement to extend the pause on federal student loan repayment to May 1st, 2022:
"President Biden gave the American people a much-needed holiday gift by taking action to extend the pause on federal student loan debt repayment. As the rise in Omicron variant cases have reminded us, our nation is still in the midst of a global pandemic that has impacted both our health and our economy. Many student loan borrowers, especially those in communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, would have found it difficult to resume repayment in January and were at risk of falling behind in their payments.
“According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than 36 million Americans owe an estimated $1.73 trillion in federal student loans and a third of borrowers are in default or delinquency. President Biden made the right decision for the American people and our economy. We applaud this effort and encourage future efforts to address this nation’s student loan debt crisis.”

Williams Chicken held its annual Change for Change Community Christmas Party at Freedom Chevrolet Buick GMC by Ed Morse in Dallas, recently. It was an Oak Cliff style party where Williams Chicken and Freedom Chevrolet gave away 100 bikes and toys to area youth who got to take a picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Freedom Chevrolet General Manager, Kyle Bettilyon and Hiawatha Williams CEO and Founder of Williams Chicken gave a Buick Encore to a 27-year-old mother with four children.

The multi-faith group believes that more funds should be spent on rehabilitation
Nine people who were unable to afford bail were released Thursday from Dallas’ Lew Sterrett Justice Center thanks to Faith in Texas, a non-profit multi-faith organization, using $100,000 from its Luke 4:18 Bail Fund. Each month the bail fund has a budget of $30,000 for bailouts in Dallas County. The organization depends highly upon donors.

DALLAS -- As of 12:00 pm December 20, 2021 Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 568 additional positive cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Dallas County, 421 confirmed cases and 147 probable cases. There is a cumulative total of 354,764 confirmed cases (PCR test). There is a cumulative total of 66,056 probable cases (antigen test). A total of 5,427 Dallas County residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19 illness. Today’s press release includes the new case totals accumulated from Friday.
