NEW SCALE NEWS
LIFE SCIENCE LAB AUTOMATION EDITION

September 2023

Dear Lisa,

REMINDER: If you're ordering Neuropixels 2.0 probes for use with the MPM System, please order the version with metal cap. See our probe mount prototype below.

We're pleased to report that both Neuropixels Trajectory Explorer (Peters Lab, University of Oxford) and Poinpoint (Virtual Brain Lab) are working well with our MPM Pathfinder software and Multi-Probe Micromanipulator (MPM) System. We have several users doing simulation planning with these tools and getting very similar trajectory results. As always, contact me if you have questions.

PRODUCT NEWS

Novel electrode technology from NeuroLight to be supported by New Scale's MPM System

Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed a novel optoelectrode with recording sites and precisely defined µLEDs (10 x 15 µm). Called NeuroLight, these optoelectrodes allow for simultaneous recording and local optogenetic stimulation.

New Scale Technologies has designed a prototype probe mount for using NeuroLight optoelectrodes with our Multi-Probe Micromanipulator (MPM) System.

We are working with Camelia Zheng (Fontanini Lab, Stony Brook) to evaluate and test the design. We invite MPM users to contact us about participating in this development.

MPM Pathfinder & Neuropixels Trajectory Explorer

MPM Pathfinder Software simplifies planning, simulation and execution. The open-source Neuropixels Trajectory Explorer (Peters Lab, Oxford) makes it even more powerful. Use the software in simulation mode to plan and visualize probe positions and approach angles, check for interference, and practice insertions. Then during insertion, pass probe coordinates from Pathfinder to Trajectory Explorer and visualize real-time probe locations in a 3D brain model and the Pathfinder view simultaneously.

MPM System will use Neuropixels 2.0 Probes

with metal cap

Multi-Probe Micromanipulator (MPM) System users who are ordering Neuropixels 2.0 probes should order the version with metal cap.

The MPM System probe mounting kit (in development) will use the Neuropixels 2.0 probe's metal cap for mounting and alignment.
