In April, CAS participated in two key industry events that shape the future of vehicle diagnostics, data access, and scan tool development: the NASTF Spring Member Meeting and the ETI ToolTech Conference. Here’s a breakdown of what we learned, how it impacts our industry, and what it means for our customers and partners.
🔧 NASTF Update:
Secure Gateway & VSP Discussion
The National Automotivsdase Service Task Force (NASTF) hosted their semi-annual member meeting, focusing heavily on Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) and Secure Data Release Model (SDRM) programs.
One of the key topics was NASTF's involvement with Hyundai/Kia Secure Gateway (SGW) access through J2534 applications. While this isn’t fully implemented yet, it's in development.
📌 CAS raised a critical question: Why is NASTF stepping into SGW access when AutoAuth already provides a solution?
NASTF responded that their member validation process is stronger than AutoAuth’s. However, conversations at the ETI ToolTech Conference with Hyundai and AutoAuth representatives revealed differences in interpretation. It’s a developing situation—stay tuned for updates as this new access process unfolds.
🤝 ETI ToolTech: CAS Takes Center Stage
The ETI ToolTech Conference remains the most valuable event of the year for OEM engagement. CAS was proud to be a Diamond+ sponsor, giving us visibility at the registration desk and during the OEM Panel Discussion, which included representatives from GM, Toyota, Ford, and Hyundai—all of whom recognized and respected CAS’s work in the industry.
The second part of the ETi event is the one-on-one meetings with various OEM’s and other companies. I meet with a number of individuals/groups. Here’s the who and what of those meeting. Some of CAS's meetings included GM/ACDelco, Hyundai, OPUS, Getac, and DG Technology.
Overall, it was a productive meeting and we look forward to returning next year! Attached are some images.
