Upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 Pro

TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After 10/14/25, your system will continue to work but there will be NO security updates, bug fixes, and Microsoft tech support will stop.

Upgrading to Windows 11 can be free so long as your laptop meets hardware requirements. CAS supplied laptops for the last few years have been either shipping with Windows 11 O/S or a Windows 11 upgrade licensing included. So, many CAS customers will have no real issue upgrading to Window 11 Professional or they are already there.

You can use Microsoft's PC integrity checker to verify if your device can run Windows 11:

1) Click here to download Microsoft's official PC Health Check App

2) A file will download to your PC. Click install and the above screen should appear.

3) Click [Check Now] as shown in reference image seen above in this article. You will now be presented with an evaluation of your laptop if it is OK to migrate to Windows 11.

Keeping your laptop-based OEM scan operational and secure is critical for efficient service bay operations. To ensure your operations are fully secure, we recommend looking into upgrading to Window's 11's sooner rather than later. Although you can pay Microsoft a fee to gain an additional year of limited security updates, many of OEM's will be simply transitioning their OEM software and support to only acknowledge Windows 11.

Bottom Line: Windows 10 reaches end-of-support October 14, 2025. Upgrading to Windows 11 is free if your PC qualifies. If your PC doesn't qualify (or you're not sure if it does), call your CAS Rep or CAS Tech Support and ask about your present PC's viability to run Windows 11. CAS offers both Dell and Panasonic laptops with full support and license transfers.

CAS Customers with current Balanced Billings running are eligible to add a replacement laptop to their monthly billing, with no interest charges! Call your CAS rep to see how inexpensive it can be to upgrade now!

Maine's Gov. Janet Mills' refuses to sign Right to Repair

Maine's Governor Janet Mills' refused to sign LD 1228, the Right to Repair bill and edits we've been tracking over the last year. Reactions to the edits in question have been mixed as recent amendments removed original language that independent shops and automotive industry groups had been championing and was supported by 84% of Maine voters in November 2023.

The current version of the bill repeals the November 2023 language requiring all Maine-sold vehicles to have a standardized data platform for car owners and independent repair shops to access.

It gives OEMs two years to provide the ability for car owners and independent repair facilities to diagnose and repair vehicles using a telematics system in the same way they operate their own facilities and repairs. Governor Mills' will have three days at the start of the next Session in January to veto it or LD 1228 will automatically become law.

We will see if the Governor of Maine signs the bill and if you'd like to read more, click here.

FINANCING IS AVAILABLE!

Are you thinking about purchasing new scan tools or upgrading your current ones, but not in a financial place to do so?

There's a tab on our website called 'Financing', and it's found on the top right of our header bar. It goes through a financing company called ClickLease and only requires a credit score over 550 in order to fund your purchase.

Click here on Financing Info and it will redirect you to the page where you can get more information or apply to finance the tool(s) you might be considering purchasing outright.

Even if you're not ready to purchase right now, you can always send in an application and see what you qualify for in the future.

You can also head over to the Buy Online Now page and go right to the tool you're looking for. Since the options are dynamic, the lowest monthly payment changes depending on the tool you're viewing.

There's no hard pull on your credit and ClickLease is available to anyone with a credit score from 550 and up.

Check out what you're qualified for if you're interested in new tools but can't pay in full right now!

Tech Tip - What day is it?

Intermittently, you may experience an issue with laptop-based scan scan tools, where the function may pause or freeze because the date, time, and/or time zone setting are incorrect.

There are several explanations as to why this may be the case, but what's important to understand is that some of the OEM scan tools have geographically based security features.

Syncing your PC's date, time, and/or time zone to the correct location will ensure the best chance at connectivity every time. If your laptop clock reads 3 pm, but it's 10 am locally, your tool's security system may prevent it from functioning.

This is partially related to security - most OEM scan tools do not work outside the United States or Canada, so operating on a time zone outside of North America will result in an error. If you discover your tool just isn't working one day, take a peek at the laptop's time and date settings.

You might be in another country!

If you're where you're meant to be, you might have bigger issues. If so call CAS Tech Support @ 1-877-263-4897 ext. # 3 (M-F 8:30am-5:00 pm EST)
