Labscopes in the Repair Shop

Labscopes, or oscilloscopes, are indispensable in modern auto repair, providing detailed insights into a vehicle's electrical systems which get more and more advanced as technology progresses.

Why are labscopes essential to enhanced diagnostics?

Labscopes capture and display voltage signals over time, offering a detailed view of a vehicle’s electrical activities. Whether it's a malfunctioning sensor, a failing actuator, or issues within the vehicle’s communication networks, a labscope can pinpoint the problem.

What is Waveform Analysis?

Understanding a vehicle's electrical health involves examining the waveforms produced by its components. Labscopes display these waveforms, helping technicians identify voltage spikes, drops, and irregular patterns that indicate problems.

Benefits to Data Logging?

A standout feature of labscopes is their ability to log data over time. This function is invaluable for identifying intermittent problems that don’t occur consistently. By reviewing logged data, technicians can uncover patterns.

User-Friendly Operation

Features like waveform libraries, zoom functions, and automated measurements make it easy for technicians of all skill levels to use the tool effectively, reducing training time and increasing productivity.

Voltage Chart for Module Programming

Any tech worth his salt knows that during a reprograming event the vehicle's system voltage needs to be maintained within a certain range. Typically achieved by using a reflashing power supply. Today, some of these power supplies allow the user to select the voltage range to maintain. But knowing what's the recommended range can be a challenge!

Recently the digital publication, 'Vehicle Service Pros' printed a list of voltage range requirements by carline, and we thought this would be something many of our OEM scan tool customers would find useful. To download a copy, click here: Voltage Ranges!

As a reminder to the CAS customers who are using either a Z-5, Z-7, Gscan-3, Opti-Aim or Iscan-3, you do have remote programming assistance available to you by simply calling our remote support line. 833-397-3668 (M-F 8:30AM till 4:30PM EST)

Tech Tip - Nissan Code 21

One of the calls that we started getting an increased number of had to do with CAS customers using their Z5 or Gscan-3 on later model Nissan's with Central Gateway controllers. Similar to FCA, now that these tools from E-ZDS had this capability added, shops started seeing an error code 21. The source of this error code is coming from the Auto Auth site not the vehicle! It occurs when a shop has registered with AutoAuth for FCA security access but has not registered to also be recognized for Nissan car lines! To prevent the issue, the shop owner needs to register their shop and scan tool on the AutoAuth site AND make sure they select 'Nissan" as a car line to be covered!
