An organization founded a little more than a year ago to "as a regional catalyst for the preservation, presentation, and promotion of cultural heritage and literary arts," has announced plans to open a Cultural Center at the heart of the Historic District in Old Towne Orange, California. The building, constructed in 1925 and located at 115 North Orange Street, will host a bookshop, gallery, multi-use performance space, and café serving creative beverages crafted by Contra Coffee & Tea. 1888 Center will provide a home for curated books, exhibitions, and lifelong learning programs. Its founder and executive director, Kevin Staniec, is well-known throughout Orange County for his imaginative curatorial initiatives and was recognized in 2015 by the OC Register as one of the Most Influential People in Orange County.

City of Newport Beach Approves Project , Advancing OC Museum of Art Planned Move to SCFTA
Last night the Newport Beach City Council gave the green light to the Museum House project, a 100-unit luxury condominium planned for the site of the existing OC Museum of Art in Newport Center. The museum's sale of the property is a cornerstone in its longtime plan to build a new venue on land it owns next to the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa.
