Late Friday night, the Legislature sent Gov. Jerry Brown a bill that contains new wildfire safety and prevention measures. Provisions address forest management and utility hardening, language expanding the use of mutual aid funding for pre-positioning of equipment and personnel, as well as tools to assist utilities that are facing costs from wildfires. 

Cities can apply for a grant through the U.S. Forest Service’s Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire program to reduce wildfire risk throughout land use planning.
