The Four Freedoms Civic Education Cohort

Cal Poly Humboldt has received a US Department of Education History and Civics Education grant. The Four Freedoms (TFF) is recruiting 25 TK-12 educators in far northwestern California and 25 TK-12 educators in San Diego County. TFF is currently recruiting Humboldt and Del Norte TK-12 educators who teach U.S. history and civics, including those who teach Agriculture, Ed Specialist, Alternative Ed, and American Government. School staff supporting Indian Education programs are also encouraged to apply.
TFF seeks to explore and expand content knowledge in U.S. history and civic engagement in the classroom and in the community. Cal Poly Humboldt is currently recruiting for our first year beginning January 2024. 50 total TK-12 educators (25 in San Diego and 25 in Humboldt and Del Norte) teachers will be admitted for the first cohort. Participants will receive a $1,000 per semester stipend. $2,000 per year. There is a potential additional $1,500 per year stipend for teachers who host a student teacher.

There will also be a mid-month, one-hour virtual PLC and a three-day summer workshop June 18-20: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

California Indian Educational Leader Pathway Cohort
American Indian Studies Certificate for California Ethnic Studies

K-12 educators, counselors, administrators, and tribal education staff will have access to the California Indian Education for All Leadership Program through our U.S. Department of Education's Office of Indian Education NYCP Grant. The San Diego County Office of Education and California Indian Education for All are collaborating with UC Berkeley's Joseph A. Myers Center for Research on Native American Issues, California Indian Museum and Cultural Center, and CSU San Marcos, American Indian Studies faculty to offer this unique professional learning and certificate program. We welcome you to submit your interest to participate in a 9-month cohort to learn cultural competency leadership skills and design asset -based schools that will promote American Indian student achievement and success.

Cohort members will complete the following learning pathway: Introduction to American Indian Studies, Decolonizing California, Designing and Teaching American Indian Studies, and American Indian Educational Leadership. Participants will earn California Indian Educational Leader Certificate, American Indian Studies Certificate for California Ethnic Studies, and be paid $1500 upon completion. Grant funds will pay for the cohort members' stipends, tuition, and course materials. Preference will be given to American Indian K-12 educators, counselors, administrators, and tribal education staff or K-12 educators, counselors, administrators, and tribal education staff that directly support American Indian students. This cohort is designed to support educators, administrators, and tribal education staff that are designing American Indian Studies curriculum or Ethnic Studies lesson plans.

Remote professional learning and courses will occur twice a month on a Monday or Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be 3 days of in-person professional learning during August 2024 in Berkeley and San Diego County. Participants will have an option to attend either location for in-person professional learning.
