PrimaHealth Credit will now lend to borrowers looking to pay for addiction treatment
Jonathan Shieber @jshieber  / 1:33 pm PST • January 27, 2020
California-based fintech startup PrimaHealth Credit ( www.primahealthcredit.com ) has expanded its offering to include addiction treatment centers. Their innovative finance platform helps patients suffering from drug or alcohol abuse get on a path to recovery by putting affordable monthly payments for out-of-pocket expenses within reach.

PrimaHealth Credit’s proprietary credit analytics engine reduces risk for treatment providers by instantly assessing an applicant’s ability to pay. Patients use a simple mobile application, receive instant credit decisions, and can select from several payment options if approved. The platform also helps providers reduce their administrative costs, by managing all payment servicing, accounts receivable, and credit reporting on their behalf. Additionally, the company’s platform helps providers maintain compliance with payors and meet certain regulatory requirements, with a valid and documented effort to collect co-pays and deductibles due from patients.

A molecule produced by the brain that activates the same receptors as marijuana is protective against stress by reducing anxiety-causing connections between two brain regions, Vanderbilt University Medical Center researchers report.
This finding, published today in Neuron , could help explain why some people use marijuana when they're anxious or under stress. It could also mean that pharmacologic treatments that increase levels of this molecule, known as "2-AG," in the brain could regulate anxiety and depressive symptoms in people with stress-related anxiety disorders, potentially avoiding a reliance on medical marijuana or similar treatments.
Harmful effects of nicotine
Abstract
With the advent of nicotine replacement therapy, the consumption of the nicotine is on the rise. Nicotine is considered to be a safer alternative of tobacco. The IARC monograph has not included nicotine as a carcinogen. However there are various studies which show otherwise. We undertook this review to specifically evaluate the effects of nicotine on the various organ systems. A computer aided search of the Medline and PubMed database was done using a combination of the keywords. All the animal and human studies investigating only the role of nicotine were included.

Long Term Effects of Overdoses on the Brain
By  Kristance Harlow  01/30/20
Despite what we know about how overdoses can kill, there is scant literature regarding chronic health outcomes for people who have survived multiple overdoses.
Drug overdoses are a leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States. We know the dangers of overdoses; generally, they can kill. Opioids make up a large percentage of these deaths. In 2016, opioids made  up 69 percent  of drug overdose deaths. For people ages 25 to 64, drug overdoses cause more deaths than car accidents. Overdoses caused by opioids can be reversed if quickly countered with naloxone, an opioid antagonist.
