Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
(ARC/STSA) recently
announced that they would open the next phase in their nationwide search for the programmatic accrediting organization's new Executive Director.
President Van Bates and the ARC/STSA Board of Directors have commissioned the search committee and relaunched a thorough and exhaustive process to identify a suitable candidate to direct the organization's business.

This note follows a very successful CAAHEP Annual Meeting in Memphis, TN. It was a great meeting, sessions, and exchange of information. The sessions offered a range of stimulating topics from,
The Bigger Picture: What Does the Future Hold for Higher Education? (Martin Van Der Werf), to
Update on Issues in Washington (Jan Vaughan, J.D.), to
Competency Based Education ( Erin Knepler & Carla Long). All in all, a successful annual meeting.
As President, I want to again thank
John Padgett,
Cameron Harris, and
Claire Chandler for their years of service as CAAHEP Board members. It is the contributions of all of our volunteers that make CAAHEP work and helps us to fulfill the promise of the "Gold Standard" for Allied Health programmatic accreditation.
I also want to welcome our new board members,
Amber Donnelly and
Katie Kuntz. We look forward to having them join the board. I am certain they know we will be putting them to work.
Finally, I want to again encourage all our CAAHEP stakeholders to keep abreast of the happenings in Washington and the pressures that are being placed on the accreditation community. While most of the pressure is currently on institutional accreditors, the tide will likely impact programmatic accreditors also. It is up to all of us to do our best in the exercise of our responsibilities as we apply CAAHEP programmatic accreditation. It is quite a responsibility to ensure quality allied health education.
If there is anything CAAHEP can do, please do not hesitate to give us a shout.

CAAHEP has Moved! Is Your Program's Website in Compliance with CAAHEP Policy?
The CAAHEP office moved to a new Clearwater location in early April. The new address is: 25400 US Highway, 19 N., Suite 158, Clearwater, FL 33763.
The telephone and fax numbers remain the same. Please make sure to update your records. Also, it is important for CAAHEP accredited programs to be sure the new address is in all publications in order to stay in compliance with CAAHEP Policy
302 Public Use of CAAHEP Accreditation Status by Programs and Institutions, which states:
B. If a program has CAAHEP accreditation, the sponsor must use the following language when referring to that accreditation:
1. In at least one of its comprehensive publications customarily used to officially convey institutional information, it must state:
"The [name of program] is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of [name of Committee on Accreditation].

Programs can be cited for not having correct information available on their website. Please be sure to ask your school's website content manager to make this change. Also, if this information is included in online and printed brochures and course catalogs, the address change needs to be updated there as well.

Invoices with CAAHEP Fee Increase Out in May
|
CAAHEP has continually publicized the 2016 Fee Increase ever since the Board approved the fee changes in November 2014. As staff prepares the invoices for 2016, this serves as a reminder that the change in CAAHEP's institutional fees take effect July 1, 2016. The fee will be raised from $450 to $550. This is the first increase in over 15 years!
This is the fee paid by every institution that sponsors one or more CAAHEP-accredited programs.

CAAHEP Annual Meeting Highlights 
The 2016 CAAHEP Annual Meeting was held April 10 and 11 in Memphis, Tennessee. The reviews are in, and not only was this one of the best attended Annual Meetings, the session ratings were excellent! Programs included, an update on CAAHEP's Strategic Plan,
"The Bigger Picture: What does the Future Hold for Higher Education?," "Updates on Issues in Washington," "Shared Design and Emerging Practices in Competency Based Education," and "Best Practices for Accreditors in Assessing Competency Based Education." In addition, there were spotlights on the professions of Polysomnographic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. There was also an opportunity for program directors and deans to sit down and talk with the leaders of four of CAAHEP's largest Committees on Accreditation - EMS-Paramedic, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Surgical Technology, and Medical Assisting. Annual Meeting Reception
Beale Street is not the only place to hear good music in Memphis, well, at least not when CAAHEP is in town! In addition to the presentations during the Annual Meeting, attendees let their hair down a bit and were entertained by the one and only King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Some attendees shared in a duet and a dance with the King, while others just enjoyed the show! It was a great night of networking and memories of classic rock and roll music. Who said accreditation can't be fun?

The William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service
This year's Annual Meeting's Awards Luncheon was a special tribute to a dedicated CAAHEP volunteer, William W. Goding. As reported in February, CAAHEP lost one of our founding members and a tremendously dedicated volunteer. At its January meeting, it was only fitting for the Board to rename CAAHEP's highest award to the
William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service. At this year's luncheon, a montage of photos of Bill Goding through the years welcomed attendees, and was followed by a special tribute to Bill. Bill's wife, Jackie Long-Goding, Executive Director of the
Committee on Accreditation for Education in Neurodiagnostic Technology (as well as newly named Executive Director of the Joint Review Committee for Education in Cardiovascular Technology), attended and assisted President S
kalko in the first-time presentation of the award.
The
2016 William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service
was presented to
Calvin D. Harris, EdD,
who served as a Public Member on the CAAHEP Board for a total of four terms. During the first two terms on the Board, Mr. Harris served alongside Bill Goding. And, a few years later when one of the Public Members had to resign, Calvin stepped up and agreed to fill that vacancy going on to serve another two terms. Like Bill Goding before him, Calvin also served as CAAHEP's Treasurer and he, too, served as Chair of the Standards Committee. Calvin also served on the Bylaws Committee and as liaison to several Committees on Accreditation.
Like Bill, Calvin Harris exemplifies the essence of volunteer service to CAAHEP and there could be no more fitting choice to receive the first William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Service.

Presidential Citation
The CAAHEP Presidential Citation is not presented every year; just when a President wishes to recognize the accomplishments of a CAAHEP volunteer who has directly assisted the President. This year, President Skalko chose to recognize a long-standing Committee on Accreditation leader, who has stepped up time again to assist CAAHEP on many levels. Whether he was sharing examples of his CoA's policies or practices, serving on a sub committee or task force, or simply sharing his experience with new CoA staff members, CAAHEP has benefited tremendously from the support of this volunteer.
Keith Orloff, CST, FAST, serves as current Executive Director of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA). He has served on numerous CAAHEP Summer Workshop planning committees and special project task forces, and has made presentations to other CoA leaders throughout his tenure. Currently, Keith serves as a member of the CAAHEP Standards Committee and the Bylaws Committee. He is also assisting CAAHEP by serving on a task force for one of its newest initiatives, the Site Visitor Training.
During his award presentation, President Skalko said of Keith's character and dedication to the organization, "Keith is one of my "go-t
o" guys. I can always count on him to volunteer to help me with a project or initiative." President Skalko thanked Keith for his assistance and dedication to him and to CAAHEP as an organization.

Accreditation Actions
Each profession in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) system has a Committee on Accreditation (CoA) that consists of experts in the profession that are responsible for reviewing programs and making appropriate recommendations for accreditation to CAAHEP. CAAHEP reviews recommendations received from its CoAs in each profession, assures due process was followed, and takes final action on an accreditation status.
CAAHEP took the following actions at its
March 18, 2016 meeting. Actions are identified by profession, action taken, and date of the next comprehensive evaluation. In some cases, the concentration and/or degree are also specified. Where possible, a link to the program's website is provided.
The following program was found to be in compliance with the accreditation Standards and Guidelines and was granted continuing accreditation, with the next comprehensive evaluation to occur no later than 2018. This action requires no progress report and was approved on the consent agenda.
