February 2018
From the President
Thanks to all of the CAAHEP leaders who actively participated in the pre-strategic planning activity during our January leadership meeting in West Palm Beach Gardens. The resulting compilation of ideas and insights will be of great value to the Board as we begin to create the new strategic plan.
Many significant issues have been raised, but one important challenge on the CAAHEP/CoA horizon that seems likely to require our attention is the CHEA mandate for even greater transparency regarding accredited program outcomes. You'll recall that not so long ago CAAHEP and subsequently the CoAs adopted policy changes to begin the process of better informing the public of program outcomes. Thanks to coordinated efforts, the CAAHEP community was able to comply with the new transparency requirements in a timely manner, with 94% of CAAHEP accredited programs reporting outcomes. We knew at the time that making public at least one outcome for graduating classes, e.g. pass rates, employment, satisfaction, was likely just the beginning of a move toward even greater transparency. It appears that now we need to prepare ourselves for additional transparency requirements. Watch for more news on this developing front.
Happy new year, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming annual meeting in April, in my hometown, Louisville KY.
Carolyn O'Daniel, EdD, RRT
President
