CAAHEP Communiqué
February 2020
From the President

2019 is behind us and WOW did CAAHEP kick 2020 off in great fashion! If you did not have the opportunity to attend the January Leadership Conference, you missed a great one. As one attendee put it, “this was the best conference, I’ve ever attended…”. The Leadership Conference attendees included representatives from 21 of the 25 Committees on Accreditation (CoAs) as well as some CAAHEP Commissioners and member organization representatives.

The Leadership Conference was kicked off with a review of our 3-year strategic plan along with progress updates. The strategic plan serves as a road map of goals and strategic actions that aid in assuring CAAHEP is focused on meeting our mission of providing quality assurance in health sciences and health professions education by setting standards for program accreditation and evaluating program performance. The other topics included Washington and CHEA Updates, International Accreditation, Virtual Site Visits, Roles of the Liaison, and Document Management.

During the conference, the spirit of the CAAHEP members rang true with spirited dialogue, discussions, and suggestions on how to improve the service to our CoA’s, professional programs, and the student, which will ultimately improve outcomes. Throughout the two days, there were two themes that repeatedly came to the forefront, efficiency and innovation. Through these spirited dialogues and collegiate round table discussions I was reminded why it is such a privilege to serve as President of CAAHEP. The individuals that make up the CAAHEP organization are some of the most talented, intelligent, giving, and mission focused professionals with which I’ve ever been associated.

I want to ensure that everyone within the CAAHEP family has the opportunity to participate in one of our conferences. If you haven’t registered yet for the 2020 Annual CAAHEP Meeting in April, I would encourage you to do so. The Planning and Development Committee has us going to beautiful Fort Lauderdale, FL and the Program Planning Committee has put together an exciting agenda titled “CAAHEP 2020: Perfecting our Vision.” The Keynote Address will come from The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) President, Dr. Judith Eaton. CHEA is the accrediting body of CAAHEP. This timing of having Dr. Eaton is important as we continue to develop in the area of international accreditation.

I want to give huge shout out to the CAAHEP Staff for consistently producing great meetings and conferences along with serving all of you in the CAAHEP community. Lastly, I want to thank all Board of Director members for the leadership they provide guiding this organization. The hours they give as volunteers leading this organization are immense and are not taken lightly.

Until next time, stay warm, stay well, and I hope to see you at the Annual Meeting in April.

President Glen Mayhew, DHSc, NRP

Accreditation Actions
Each profession in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) system has a Committee on Accreditation (CoA) that consists of experts in the profession that are responsible for reviewing programs and making appropriate recommendations for accreditation to CAAHEP. CAAHEP reviews recommendations received from its CoAs in each profession, assures due process was followed, and takes final action on an accreditation status.
CAAHEP took the following actions on January 16, 2020 meeting. Actions are identified by profession, action taken, date of the next comprehensive evaluation, and whether a progress report to improve program compliance is required.
