June 2019
From the President
Just a few months ago we were looking forward to the warmer spring weather and here we are dodging heavy rain and watching for tornadoes in many parts of the country. Each season brings good and bad weather but we all learn to cope with the changes. Summer is a time for weddings, graduations, and vacations. It is a time for new beginnings whether it is for newlyweds or graduates. A vacation from work allows us to rest, relax, explore new territories, and forget about work for a week or two. By now I sincerely hope that you have finalized your summer plans and look forward to spending some time with your family and friends.
This is a time to wish all of my CAAHEP friends a Happy New Year. For CAAHEP, July 1
st is January 1
st, the start of the new budget year and a new Board of Directors, including a new President. In May, the Board of Directors elected a new President, Glen Mayhew. I wish Glen well as he takes over the President’s duties and offer him my full support. To the new Board members, enjoy the experience and take your obligations seriously. To the Board members who are walking off into the sunset along with me, thank you for your support and dedication to CAAHEP.
There is a saying that “all good things come to an end” and so my time as CAAHEP President comes to an end. I have certainly enjoyed my time as President because of Kathy Megivern and the CAAHEP staff. Working with all of them has made this job so much easier and I will miss their friendly reminders and frequent emails. I want to extend my deep appreciation to all of the CAAHEP family- Kathy Megivern, the CAAHEP staff, the CoAs, and commissioners. There is a religious hymn entitled “We Are Many Parts” which I believe best describes CAAHEP. The verse reads that “we are many parts; we are one body”. CAAHEP is comprised of over 25 CoAs, a Board, an excellent staff, and many commissioners, each with a function that when properly done, allows “CAAHEP” to meet its mission. I am indeed proud to have been a part of this ‘one CAAHEP body’. I hope that each CAAHEP part continues to perform its function to ensure that the CAAHEP body stays healthy and strong.
The ‘New Year’ will bring some changes to CAAHEP so please read through this edition and make changes as necessary. In his book,
Who Moved My Cheese, Dr. Johnson encourages us to “Enjoy change, savor the adventure and enjoy the taste of new cheese”. Change will happen so expect and adapt to it. Enjoy your summer vacation and all the best to each one of you.
Gregory Ferenchak, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(QM)

World Accreditation Day, held annually on June 9, is an initiative to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.
Accreditation touches just about every level of our lives - whether it is accrediting a product or service - it's through accreditation that society has confidence that the product has been tested or inspected in some way or a service has been evaluated to ensure it meets a specific set of Standards. The value of accreditation is recognized by economies and societies worldwide. It is a measure of trust and provides confidence in consumers.
CAAHEP accreditation is recognized for its ability to evaluate education programs against the Standards developed by the profession. Graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs can be assured to have the knowledge needed to be successful in entering their chosen allied health field.
CAAHEP accreditation is a trusted choice for students, employers, certifying and licensure bodies, and the public.
So, here's to World Accreditation Day! Cheers to all, as we're all a part of CAAHEP accreditation.

Each profession in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) system has a Committee on Accreditation (CoA) that consists of experts in the profession that are responsible for reviewing programs and making appropriate recommendations for accreditation to CAAHEP.
