The CABE Pepperdine Chapter has had a busy fall. The chapter held a chapter meeting in September that featured Dr. Jeremiah Gonzalez, educator, administrator, and now part of the LAUSD Covid Response team. He shared with the GSEP community how to connect all your work and passion for the wellbeing of multilingual families and students. The chapter also held an election for secretary, and it elected Norma Gonzalez, a doctoral student at GSEP. Welcome, Norma to the team!

In November, the team set up a beautiful ofrenda to celebrate Día de los Muertos. The ofrenda was showcased in the Pepperdine West LA campus library for three weeks. It was terrific getting together and spending time in person for the first time in over two years. The ofrenda offered all students the opportunity to place a message for their loved ones that have passed away. Many students shared notes and this activity enhanced community time.
The chapter will host a meeting on 12/7 to swear in the new secretary and to plan for Spring events. Looking forward to a great year in 2022!

CABE Pajaro 66 started a newsletter!
We are trying to recruit more active members to our chapter. To that end, we've hand-delivered our newsletter and meeting invitations, along with a bowl of pre-packaged snacks (a blatant bribe to attract eyeballs) to schools in our district with dual-language programs.
At our September meeting, members expressed a need for networking and mutual support. We're trying to come up with ways to accomplish this in an atmosphere of teacher overload where few have an interest in meeting. How can we nurture our membership and give support to teachers in dual-language programs that are just beginning? One approach we're trying is to create an Instagram account. Hopefully, this will create a virtual space for idea sharing, promoting dual-language programs, and problem-solving within our educator community. We are open to any suggestions for building a more active membership!

Día de los Muertos Celebration
In November, CABE Pajaro 66 participated in the Dia de los Muertos Celebration sponsored by the Watsonville Film Festival and the City of Watsonville in order to promote cultural pride in our local Mexican heritage and to build our reputation as an active organization. We made calaveras masks which we invited children to color and take home with them.
