CABE and MCAP Celebrate & Thank Dr. Erika García!

Over the past year, Dr. Erika García, CABE MCAP Professional Learning Specialist, has supported the implementation of the online MCAP Academies and MCAP Innovations. She has built strong relationships with our MCAP Alliance partners and supported the launching of the Asian Languages Design Thinking Network, the Dual Language Teacher Academy, the Dual Language Design Thinking Network, and more.

Erika has a genuine commitment to biliteracy programs and research around multilingual programs. As she transitions to her new position as full-time professor at Fresno State, an MCAP IHE partner, we thank Erika for her leadership and contributions to MCAP & CABE's greater vision of multilingual education. MCAP Director, Dr. Alma Castro echoes the sentiments of the entire CABE team, "I will truly miss her leadership and her as my thought partner in all MCAP areas and the overall services MCAP provides statewide."

Best of Luck, Erika!

CABE Pepperdine Chapter Updates
Summer 2022
CABE Pepperdine Chapter completed the spring semester and is excited about the summer. The chapter celebrated President, Linda Guzman and Secretary, Norma Guzman as they received their doctorate in educational leadership. Linda Guzman’s dissertation was entitled “Hispanic school leaders and their impact on students.” Norma Guzman’s dissertation was entitled ‘Social-emotional learning for Hispanic students.”

This means the Pepperdine chapter is looking for new student leaders. Our chapter Director of Excellence, Vanessa Rosales just completed her first year in the doctoral program and recently returned from an international trip with her cohort to Dubai. Our chapter Vice President, Iris Ji has embarked on writing her dissertation and will focus on language and bilingualism.
Our faculty liaison, Dr. García Ramos, was recently elected as the new CABTE secretary.

Join the Pepperdine chapter for the annual Proposal Writing Workshop on July 6th virtually or in person. We will help you develop a proposal for the 2023 Annual CABE Conference.

CABE Pepperdine chapter is excited to continue developing more activities this coming Fall!

High Desert Chapter 58 Antelope Valley Mini CABE Conference
Stand Up! Get Up for Biliteracy and Multicultural Rights!

Our AV Chapter recently held our 17th annual conference for our Antelope Valley parents at David G. Millen Law and Government Magnet Academy. It was wonderful to finally get together with our parents after two years of not being able to hold our conference in person. Dr. Victor Ríos, an award-winning professor of sociology at UCSB, author, and inspirational speaker, delivered his impactful keynote to our parents.

In addition, our two breakout sessions- Parents Supporting Multilingualism and Multiculturalism and Equity in Education Through the EL Roadmap, facilitated by our astounding CABE Parent Specialists Elizabeth Orozco and María Manríquez, provided parents with great information and resources.

Student performances by our Palmdale School District mariachi group, Los Jaguares, led by Ms. Stacy López, and the Quail Valley Folklórico led by Ms. Anain Robles Panduro proudly showcased their learning and talents. It was a spectacular event!
