To highlight Falls Prevention Awareness Week (FPAW), let's look at its purpose and its impact on older adults.

What is FPAW? Every year, the National Council on Aging partners with the Administration for Community Living to host the national annual awareness week.

The purpose of this week is to raise awareness and launch a campaign to elevate fall prevention education and highlight steps older adults can take to reduce their risk of falling.

State falls prevention coalitions and community-based organizations across the nation engage with older adults, caregivers, providers, and other community partners in awareness activities, fall risk screenings, outreach, advocacy, and partnerships.

In 2025, 925,188 individuals were reached with these activities alone, not including social media.

Of all the efforts conducted, awareness and education activities accounted for the highest at 93%.

What were the top 4 most common awareness and education events conducted?

Click here to be directed to the FPAW 2025 Impact Report. The answer can be found on page 6.

Take time to read the report; there is a lot of good information.

Deeper Dive

Residents' Rights

Each issue will highlight a different Resident's Right.

See below for a Deeper Dive into Residents' Right #2 for Nursing Homes!

2) To receive care, treatment, and services that are adequate and appropriate, and in compliance with relevant Federal and State statutes and rules.

Why This Right Matters

  • Each resident must receive all care and services described in the minimum standards for that type of facility, such as supervision and assistance with personal needs, appropriate response in case of emergencies, medication management, adequate furnishings, activities, etc.

  • A violation of this right occurs when non- compliance with a standard or other applicable law presents a direct relationship or impact on the personal well- being of a resident or residents.

  • It is important that staff be appropriately trained and that the facility and staff are able to provide care for the types and numbers of residents placed in the facility. An inadequate staffing arrangement or the inappropriate placement of residents may result in inadequate care.
