We are pleased to partner with our good friends at The Next Chapter to present A PAGE OF MADNESS (1926) with live music accompaniment d by Andrew Ahr and Tony Orzano. Set in a mental institution in Japan, this silent experimental horror film directed by Teinosuke Kinugasa was lost for 45 years until it was rediscovered by Kinugasa in his storehouse in 1971.

We are very happy to be working so closely with The Next Chapter, another wonderful cultural institution and "third place" for Long Islanders - an accessible public space where people can go other than home or work.

The Next Chapter has also been a meaningful partner in presenting the Cinema's Book Club series. Our next Book Club event is ATONEMENT, screening and discussion on Monday, December 8th at 7:30 PM.

This session is for anyone interested in learning more about what it means to be a volunteer campaigner, and/OR for anyone who wants to learn more about the history, impact, and finances of the Cinema Arts Centre.

This sesssion will also help build knowledge and skills for existing volunteers.

Join Director Julie Cohen Live!

On Sunday October 26, join Julie Cohen, the director of RBG and The Sturgeon Queens, in person for a special screening of EVERY BODY - a revelatory investigation of the lives of intersex people. The film tells the stories of three individuals, actor and screenwriter River Gallo, political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel, and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall, who have moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non-consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods after each decided to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and instead came out as their authentic selves.

Did you know there are as many people born each year who have intersex variations as who have red hair? Yet, there are people in powerful positions who are trying to erase intersex people. October 26 is Intersex Awareness Day. Please help support the rights and dignity of intersex people by joining us for this special screening.

CAC's René Bouchard to Present Leadership Education Session for the FFA.

Cinema Arts Centre Director of Development René Bouchard will be teaching a workshop entitled "Leadership is Service: How to Bring Out the Best in the People Around You" virtually for the Film Festival Allaince on Thursday November 6th at 12:30pm EST. This workshop is an evolution in a leadership series developed for the Art House Convergence, which was recently featured in Boxoffice Pro Magazine: "René’s depth of understanding about just how many stakeholders there are in a cinema or arts organization, what their motivations are, and how leaders can bring all those threads together to maintain an organization is really special."

This session is good for anyone who is leading a team - especially in a nonprofit environment. Attendees will leave with tools, strategies, and a renewed vision for leading through service.

FFA Executive Director Barbara Twist shared, "Film Festival Alliance is an international non-profit empowering festival organizers with professional resources, peer networking, and industry standards that strengthen the global festival community. We focus on Education, Advocacy, and Community Building among festival workers, including a range of virtual workshops on topics including Digital Marketing, Grantwriting, Fundraising, and Leadership. Workshops are available to all, with a discount for FFA Members."
