Honoring healthcare heroes AND helping local businesses…what more could we ask for? Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) wanted to honor their healthcare heroes this month by giving staff $200 gift cards. The organization partnered with the Asheville Chamber to execute the project. The project infused over $120,000 into the local economy and generated non-dues revenue for the Asheville Chamber. We identified a broad range of businesses with an emphasis on those owned by women and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. For a project management fee, we created a process for employees to select the gift card of their choice, coordinated with the chosen businesses and organized gift cards for MAHEC's heroes. For some of our smaller businesses, the funds were a much-needed boost in tough economic times.
