June 13-14, 2019 - Thirty (30) mental health professionals who work in coordination with fifteen (15) Illinois Children’s Advocacy Centers, two (2) mental health professionals from Fulton and Vermillion Counties, and ten (10) therapists from Lutheran Social Services of Illinois were trained in the evidence based psychotherapy approach, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT).  Attendees of this training are continuing their education with on-going follow up consultation calls. Ultimately, participants will apply for their certification in this therapy model in December. Dr. Melissa Runyon presented this two-day training, and is providing ongoing consultation.

The Advocacy Network for Children hosted a Building Resiliency in CACs and MDTs training in Adams County on May 7th. CACI Statewide MDT Coordinator, Mike Burns and Cara Vock, Coordinator of Education & Training, provide this FREE 4-hour customized training to any size MDT. Based on the nationally recognized ChildFirst Protocol, this training provides a defensible process for conducting interviews with children who may not succeed in a standard, single interview due to trauma, developmental, special needs, or other complicating issues, including polyvictimization. This training will discuss the expanded interview process as well as research supporting multiple, non-duplicative interviews with child victims and witnesses. ChildFirst Ex. can be utilized with any forensic interview protocol model and includes not only lecture but practice for participants in conducting an expanded FI. Register HERE

This training is geared for CAC directors or their designee who will be preparing for NCA Accreditation. Any CAC director can attend to gain knowledge of the accreditation process. Training will be provided by experienced site reviewers who are or were Chapter Leaders. Materials have been developed collaboratively and both sites will received the same materials. This two-day training aims to enhance previously acquired forensic interviewing skills by addressing challenges related to reluctance and the variety of ways in which youth who have experienced or witnessed maltreatment present. By covering topics of chronic, physical and psychological abuse, witness to violence and technology-facilitated crimes, trainers will provide participants with information, tools and resources for which to approach these cases.  *Intermediate Register HERE
