End of Year Appeal!
This year the Center for Applied Drama and Autism is fundraising to:

(1) Serve a more diverse population of students, particularly in the minority community, through community outreach and by training more teachers in our drama for autism techniques/methods.

(2) Hire additional staff to support our marketing and communications efforts.

(3) Mount a touring production of Along the Graveyard Path, (Socially Invisible: A History of Dis/Ability).

Help us reach our $10,000 goal to fund
the Center for Applied Drama and Autism programs!

With the deepest gratitude on behalf of our students, families and
staff,

Wendy Duke and Laura Valendza, Co-founders

Very Special Arts Intersections Regional Conference, Columbus OH - Dec 7 & 8
Ruben, Laura and Wendy attended the first ever VSA Regional Arts Intersections Conference in Columbus. Sponsored by the Kennedy Center VSA , the Intersections conferences are opportunities for those working in the fields of arts and special education to network and learn new skills and techniques. At the social gathering on Friday evening, we were treated to some very special performances by local artists. On Saturday, the day was packed full of workshops. Thanks to the generosity of CADA board member Todd Snider, our team of three was able to cover a wide variety of workshops.

We picked up some great information and techniques in playwriting, art-making, dancing in wheelchairs, arts integration, and accommodations and modifications across the spectrum of needs in all art areas. We look forward to implementing what we learned in our classes this winter!

Theatre on the Spectrum at University of Akron Theatre Department!
Theatre on the Spectrum's Adult Company presented Act for Advocacy, a workshop that focuses on disability rights at the University of Akron's Theatre program in November. Students learned how body language can become a tool for standing up to bullies. They joined us in improvisations that explored some typical forms of discrimination involving housing, access and inclusion. After the workshop, the company toured the theatre's facilities and enjoyed lunch provided by the department.

If your group is interested in hosting an Act for Advocacy workshop, contact Theatre on the Spectrum by email at [email protected] or by phone at 234-678-7830.

All Abilities Arts Expo
Theatre on the Spectrum's Adult Company participated in "Art Speaks: All Abilities Arts Expo" where they demonstrated some improvisation games. The group was given a Most Unique Art award! This event was created by Alicia M Hopkins, disability advocate and visual artist, for artists with disabilities in an accessible and supportive environment. More Expos are in the works -- stay tuned!
