Small Things That Make A Big Difference by Lisa
A few weeks ago, my child stepped off the school bus quietly, and grabbed my hand to walk home with an uncharacteristically quiet demeanor. He is usually bouncing, with his backpack unzipped and bubbling about new facts he’s learned - or about how he doesn’t quite trust the new facts he’s learned. In my mind, he is a tiny excited professor, with his black-rimmed glasses and constant skepticism about my extremely thorough and age-appropriate answers to his constant stream of questions.

Psychologists seek changes to pilot project aimed at trimming backlog of ADHD, autism testing
A number of Nova Scotia psychologists and psychiatrists are sounding the alarm over a provincial program meant to help address the growing waitlist for autism and ADHD testing, saying the pilot could drive badly-needed public health professionals into the private sector.
In September, the provincial government announced it would pay some private practice psychologists to perform autism spectrum disorder and ADHD assessments for preschool and school-aged children using health service codes as family doctors do — a first for mental health and addictions care in the province.

Diagnosed with ADHD: Managing treatments and finding support
When Heidi Bernhardt’s first child was diagnosed with attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the late 1990s, she started looking for organizations that offered resources and supports. She found very little. So, in 2000, she founded her own.
Toronto-based Centre for ADHD Awareness, Canada (CADDAC) has since grown into a national charity that provides education, advocacy, coaching, conferences, workshops and support groups for those diagnosed with ADHD, as well as for parents and teachers of kids with ADHD.
