"There are very special people on the Board of Directors. I'm very honored to receive this." - Barbara Aday-Garcia
SUD Certification Transfers
Transferring Credentials from Out-of-State
Reciprocity is the process of transferring counseling credentials to a new certifying agency.
Reciprocity is a process that allows SUD Counselors to transfer their credentials to a new certifying agency. This happens when a counselor moves to a different state, a certifying agency loses its credentials, or the counselor decides, for another reason, to make a change.

The certifying agency is responsible for all aspects of managing registration and certification requirements and government regulations for counselors to ensure a licensed and educated workforce.

Supporting Telehealth and
Technology-assisted Services
for People Who Use Drugs:
A Resource Guide
During the pandemic, many organizations that provide care to people who use drugs (PWUD) quickly transitioned from in-person care to telehealth and technology-assisted services. To better support organizations that provide care to PWUD, the National Council, with support from the CDC, developed this resource guide organized by five strategies to address implementation challenges and leverage these advances to improve the health and wellness of PWUD.

California Suicide and Self-Harm Trends in 2020
The purpose of this data brief is to highlight trends in suicide and self-harm in California (CA) during 2020, which is when COVID-19 was officially declared a global pandemic. Differences in suicide and self-harm by age, sex, race/ethnicity, and mechanism of death/injury are examined. These trends are being shared to facilitate the adaptation and implementation of data-driven strategies to prevent death and injury in groups that are identified as being at risk of suicide and self-harm.

RESEARCH PAPER: Growing racial/ethnic disparities in overdose mortality before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in California
As overdose mortality is spiking during the COVID-19 pandemic, few race/ethnicity-stratified trends are available. This is of particular concern as overdose mortality was increasing most rapidly in Black and Latinx communities prior to the pandemic. This scientific research paper used quarterly, age-standardized overdose mortality rates from California to assess trends by race/ethnicity and drug-involved over time.
