Autry Classroom Curators Presents:
Visions of Resilience
Sixth Annual Student Visual Arts Exhibition - Online Exhibition
About the theme: Visions of Resilience
Resilience is a vast and diverse concept, and a basic aspect of human societies’ ability to persevere and evolve through challenge and devastation. Without resilience, humankind would cease to persist in the face of adversity. Without resilience, nature’s growth would not ebb and flow through the seasons, droughts, and fires.
Resilience is a toughness that resides in each of us. This is particularly true of those of us who call the American West home. Through adaptability, creativity, and strength, the diverse peoples of the American West have demonstrated resilience for thousands of years. They have recovered, or are in the process of recovering, from traumatic experiences ranging from genocide and injustice to pandemics, racism, and violence. While healing from these experiences takes time, it is resilience that makes the diverse peoples of the American West who they are.
We call on the students in the American West to share with us their understandings and visions of resilience in the American West. What has resilience looked like in the past? What does it look like today? How have you experienced resilience in your own life? As always, we look forward to seeing your visions and sharing them on the Autry’s website.

10 Trusted Rules to Promote Artistic Growth in Your Classroom

The Art of Education University
Have you ever heard the saying, “You can’t think outside of the box unless you have a box?” Attributed to Michael Bahr, the concept is that we need structures to open up avenues for creative thinking and making. Corita Kent (1918–1986) knew all about this. A nun, printmaker, activist, teacher, and designer, Kent dedicated her life to the creative process. She left behind a legacy of prints, posters, and murals that reference pop art, consumerism, text, messages, faith, pacifism, activism, and love.
