CAEP Guidance Memo on Professional Development
The CAEP professional development (PD) guidance memo informs the California Adult education Program (CAEP) consortia and their members of the PD opportunities provided by the California Department of Education funded State Leadership Projects (SLPs): CALPRO, OTAN, and CASAS. Professional development provided by SLPs is now open to all CAEP funded adult education programs. As we move towards the goal of having one adult education system with multiple funding streams, it is important for all consortia and member agencies to receive equitable access to high-quality resources and technical assistance in the areas of teaching and learning, assessment, professional development and leadership building for strong programs, while centering the topics and issues that most impact our adult learners.
Please contact CAEP TAP at tap@caladulted.org or (888) 827-2324 if you have any questions.

On November 12th, CAEP TAP hosted the first part of the three-part Advancing Equity Professional Learning, Implicit Bias, in collaboration with Cynthia Peters, World Education. Attendees enjoyed the session, found the presenter to be very knowledgeable, open and focused, and appreciated hearing other practitioners experience identifying bias within themselves and at their school site. The recording and materials are available on the CAEP website.

CDE Racial Equity Initiative for Adult Education Administrators and Personnel
The Adult Education Office (AEO) at the California Department of Education (CDE) will launch a new statewide Racial Equity Initiative for the Adult Education System. One of the goals of the initiative is to promote equitable representation of educators of color in school administration, teaching, counseling, and support staff positions. This letter is the first step in implementing the initiative, and will assist CDE staff with planning future work, including the development of guidance documents to support the vision of the initiative.
Please find the official letter from CDE attached. In this letter you will find a link for a brief statewide questionnaire for administrators and adult education personnel regarding the Racial Equity Initiative. Please submit all responses by December 15, 2020.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email your inquiries to the AEO at ADULTEDUCATION@cde.ca.gov. If you have technical questions, please contact the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network on their web page at https://otan.us/about-us/contact-us/.
