The 2021-22 CAEP Preliminary Allocations are available in NOVA! Consortia can begin holding public meetings and completing the CFAD in NOVA. Remember: the CFAD must be certified by all consortia no later than May 2, 2021.

USCIS Reverts to the 2008 Version of the Naturalization Civics Test
|
|
WASHINGTON— U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today it is reverting to the 2008 version of the naturalization civics test beginning March 1, 2021.
On Dec. 1, 2020, USCIS implemented a revised naturalization civics test (2020 civics test) as part of a decennial test review and update process. USCIS determined the 2020 civics test development process, content, testing procedures, and implementation schedule may inadvertently create potential barriers to the naturalization process. This action is consistent with the framework of the Executive Order on Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems, which directs a comprehensive review of the naturalization process to eliminate barriers and make the process more accessible to all eligible individuals.
Applicants who filed their application for naturalization on or after Dec. 1, 2020, and before March 1, 2021, likely have been studying for the 2020 test; therefore, USCIS will give these applicants the option to take either the 2020 civics test or the 2008 civics test. There will be a transition period where both tests are being offered. The 2020 test will be phased out on April 19, 2021, for initial test takers. Applicants filing on or after March 1, 2021, will take the 2008 civics test.

State Center Adult Education Consortium Part of the Fresno K-16 Collaborative

The State Center Adult Education Consortium, with their collaborative partners, will be executing their proposal to support adult learners in obtaining education in a Fresno K-16 Collaborative’s pilot pathway to increase employability, educational attainment and socioeconomic mobility; as well as promote prior learning assessment/credit for prior learning (PLA/CPL) to recognize previously acquired education or vocational experiences.
The region’s vision is to intersegmentally provide adult learners with the skills needed for employment, continuing education, career advancement and personal growth. Working intersegmentally, the Fresno K-16 Collaborative along with community partners, will direct efforts to strengthen adult education and ensure students have access to high quality programs leading to their success in college and career.

California's Return to Work Job Seeker Webinars
|
|
The Return to Work webinar series, brought to you by the California Workforce Association, the Employment Development Department, and the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, are designed to give you the latest information on how job seekers can return to a safe work place. This interactive workshop will emphasize the needs of our more vulnerable workers that have historically found themselves working in lower wage occupations and have been inordinately impacted by the pandemic. These sessions target workforce professionals and their stakeholders to better prepare them to serve the people of our state. Designed for AJCC staff, workforce development, education, labor and community-based organizations, information will be shared that can be incorporated directly into curriculum and program design.
The two-hour session will cover the following:
- Benefits available to the job seekers of California
- Worker Rights while employed
- What they can expect from their employer under this climate (testing)
- Who to contact to get additional information about worker rights and safety
- Federal support, rescue, and stimulus package information
- Local Labor Market information and analysis

CA Competes Allied Health Report
|
|
In the new report, Meeting California's Demand for Allied Health Workers, California Competes analyzes the barriers limiting California’s supply of allied health professionals and offers solutions for addressing an anticipated annual shortage of up to 37,000 workers. The report identifies three broad categories
of potential solutions specific to addressing the bottleneck: Changes in collective stakeholder efforts; Changes in education programs; Changes in employers.
The state’s recent announcement that supporting the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines at vaccination hubs may count toward allied health students’ clinical hours is one strong example of how an employer-engaged, regionally focused effort can support effective, practical credential completion, and we hope to see others like it.

Lunch with LARAEC - February 25th

The next Lunch with LARAEC will take place tomorrow, February 25th at 12:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s session is titled, Increasing Persistence in Low-Level ESL Classrooms. Francisco Narciso, a member of DACE's Curriculum and Instruction Unit, will share best practices gleaned from eight veteran LAUSD adult education teachers who have maintained high persistence rates in their low-level ESL classrooms during the COVID-19 transition to online instruction.

Free ICAN Safe Workforce, Safe Workplace Training & Certificate

The Infection Control for All Now (ICAN) Certificate/Digital Badge is now free online for educators and industry professionals. Join members of the Workforce Economic Development Division, California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office as they provide information on the new ICAN program. Specifically, the ICAN program provides:
- Free, self-paced two-hour training program for non-health workers to educate employees on preventing the spread of disease.
- Built on CDC and CDPH content with industry input. Those who complete the course earn a Digital Badge and Certificate in one of seven areas: Distribution Center (Warehouse), Lodging Customer Service, Culinary Service, Engineering & Maintenance, Contracted Service and Housekeeping and Retail Customer Service.
- Developed in Canvas for ease of adoption by educators.
- A collaboration of the Health Workforce Initiative and Retail/Hospitality/Tourism Initiative, Workforce Economic Development Division, California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
