PPIC: More Students Have Digital Devices, but Internet Gaps Persist
|
|
The digital divide in California was exacerbated due to the pivot to distance learning because of the COVID-19 global pandemic. While the percentage of students who have access to devices increased from 67 percent in the Spring to 79 percent in the Fall, there are still gaps in access to adequate internet service. Access the PPIC blog post to learn more about the persisting internet disparities and more.

PPIC: CalFresh During the Pandemic
|
|
In a recent PPIC blog post, the impact of COVID-19 and Californians food security are examined. Californians are not only reporting they have not had enough to eat since the pandemic, they are also reporting a lack of connection to a nutrition safety net. Even with food security needs still unmet, the CalFresh program enrollment rose from 4.1 million Californians in February to a height of 4.8 million in June before declining slightly to 4.6 million in August. Access the PPIC blog post to learn more about the state of California’s food insecurity.

CAEP Considerations for Implementing Distance Learning and Recording Outcomes
Tuesday, November 10, 2020
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
With schools and colleges continuing to be closed for in person instruction due to COVID-19, many agencies have taken a “crash course” in distance learning this year. This session provides a CAEP focus on many of these common challenges, such as organizing classes, measuring instructional hours, and administering assessment. This session will provide special focus on recording hours in a community college setting, and how to measure and report hours into TOPSpro Enterprise, given students are learning in a virtual environment.

Advancing Equity Professional Learning Series
The Equity program strand at the CAEP Summit 2020 provided thought-provoking sessions with the goal of engaging in open dialogue and presenting strategies to advance equity in adult education. To continue the dialogue and increase adult education practitioners' capacity, CAEP TAP is hosting a professional learning series titled, Advancing Equity in collaboration with World Education. This three-part series will include a session on implicit bias, strategies to talk about race, and actions steps for programs and teachers addressing racial equity. Each interactive session will build upon one another; it is advised to register for all three for the full experience. The sessions are open to all; however, some sessions are designed for the classroom and program level administration. Review each description and register:
