Exactly three months ago today, the CAEP Summit 2020 was on Day 2 of the conference. By then, more than 1,000 adult education practitioners registered to attend the Summit and engage in dynamic presentations across the following program strands: Leadership, Equity, Learner Transition, Program Development, Program Evaluation, Technology and Distance Learning, Curriculum, and Marketing. Lunch with LARAEC on January 28th

The next Lunch with LARAEC will take place tomorrow, January 28th at 12:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s session is titled, Online Tools to Increase Interaction. Donna Price and Gretchen Bitterlin, two of the authors of Ventures, will demonstrate how to use online tools to increase interaction. Emphasis will be on how to make online classes more interactive. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to describe at least three tools in Presentation Plus and three Zoom annotation tools to use with Ventures. Strategies are applicable with any materials.

Hanover Research – Biden Administration Plan for Education Beyond High School

The Biden Administration launched its new education agenda. With policy implications for the higher education sector, the Biden administration's Plan for Education Beyond High School outlines the following priority areas for the incoming Administration:
- Community Colleges: The Biden administration seeks to invest in community colleges and workforce training Colleges should conduct research to determine what student support services, facilities, technologies, and other investments they should make to leverage the Biden administration’s proposed grant funding.
- Higher Education ROI: The Biden administration intends to strengthen the return on investment (ROI) of higher education, requiring that institutions understand where they currently are and what they need to change to best support short and long term student success.
- Diversity and Inclusion: The Biden administration highlights diversity and inclusion initiatives and programming, particularly among minority serving institutions (MSIs). These institutions should strategically plan how to allocate incoming grant monies from the federal government.

PPIC – Looking Ahead to California’s
2021 Labor Market

In their latest blog post, PPIC addresses the California 2021 labor market and the continuous impact of COVID-19. Economic activity continues to fluctuate due to stay-at-home orders, business closures, and individual fears about the virus. PPIC offers the following perspective related to COVID-19 and California’s economy:
- Job recovery will be limited until COVID is contained.
- Recovery will become more difficult the longer the recession persists.
- Labor force participation will be critical to watch.
- Recovery depends on getting diverse groups back to work.
- Needs during the recovery will vary across regions.

Hanover Research – National Workforce Assessment – COVID-19

In the following report, Hanover Research presents the results of an analysis of labor market trends related to the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically highlighting opportunities for new or expanded programming. Key findings from the report include:
- Displaced workers will come largely from lower-paid, lower-education occupations.
- Online degree formats are commonplace among certificates in Project Management and Computer Programming.
- Employers are increasingly interested in applicants with skills in cybersecurity, software development, project management, and data analytics/big data.
- Jobs such as Information Security Analysts, Business Operations Specialists, and Computer Network Support Specialists are expected to outperform other occupations during the pandemic.

CAEP Update: Governor’s Budget & NOVA Close Out Certification for 18-19 funds

Join Veronica Parker and Neil Kelly to discuss the 2021-22 Governor’s Proposed Budget, and walk through the NOVA Close Out Certification for CAEP 2018-19 Funds. As you know, activities related to CAEP 18-19 funds ended 12/31/20. Close out certification for CAEP members is due 3/1/21. Any remaining balances revert back to the State General Fund. Come join the webinar to ask questions and see a demonstration of the close out process.
