PPIC: Supporting Student Parents in Community College CalWORKs Programs
This report examines the role California’s community colleges play in building skills and credentials to support the economic mobility of CalWORKs parents. PPIC examined the trajectories of more than 43,000 students who received CalWORKs cash assistance and services from a college CalWORKs program between the school years 2012–13 and 2018–19. PPIC also surveyed CalWORKs program directors at community colleges to learn more about the programs and services they provide to students. The report includes the following findings:

  • On average, CalWORKs students enroll for six terms at a community college and receive support services through college CalWORKs programs for four terms.

  • CalWORKs students have low completion rates.

  • About one-third of CalWORKs students pursue career education pathways based on their course-taking.

  • College CalWORKs programs offer a wide range of services.

  • CalWORKs students do better when they are enrolled in college CalWORKs programs compared to when they are not.

Community of Practice: Expanding LMS Info Gathering—Equity in eLearning Project
World Ed has been working with state partners across the country to learn more about learning managements systems (LMS) being used or considered for use by adult education programs.

As part of its Equity in e-Learning Project, World Ed is now looking to push out its LMS scan to a broader audience. World Ed is asking those of you who are either a) using an LMS or b) in the process of determining an LMS solution to complete this short Google Form survey. In addition to those who work at adult education agencies, World Ed is also asking those who work at labor/workforce agencies, immigrant-serving organizations, and other organizations who work with adults in need of accessible, mobile-friendly learning resources to complete the survey.
