The CAEP Program Area Report Actuals are due December 1.
Join Neil Kelly and Veronica Parker to walk you through the final certification process for Program Area Reporting by hours of instruction, and by expenses by fund source. The reports are for the 19-20 program year. CAEP members that were active during the 2019-20 program year must submit the required 19-20 program and expenditure data by program area. This one hour webinar will cover any changes in reporting, and show a live demo on how to input and certify your actual numbers in NOVA.

Hanover Research: Guided Pathways
|
|
In the latest report, Hanover presents the results of a literature review around best practices in guided pathways and a benchmarking analysis of related practices among community colleges. Key findings include:
- Over the past decade, guided pathways have become increasingly popular at community colleges nationwide.
- Researchers and early adopters emphasize that implementing guided pathways is beneficial despite a lengthy implementation process.
- Meta-majors, program and transfer maps, pathway entries, and strong student support services are vital components of guided pathways.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) recently released PIAAC Skills Map, an interactive tool that presents state and county estimates of adult literacy and numeracy proficiency. These new data include first-of-their kind state- and county-level data on numeracy skills, and greater detail about literacy skills at the state and county level. I am pleased to provide the state snapshot for your state (attached), which offers an at-a-glance look at the key literacy and numeracy skills data for your state and all counties in the state. These state snapshots were offered to States on request during a June webinar and were recently shared with representatives of Governor’s offices. NCES requested that OCTAE send each State its profile.

PPIC: Higher Education and Economic Opportunity in California
|
|
In this report, PPIC focus on pathways to a bachelor’s degree, outlining the economic benefits of completing college, identifying inequitable outcomes, and exploring how inequities can be addressed by the state and its higher education institutions. Among our key findings:
- A college degree has economic benefits across all demographic groups.
- Low-income, Latino, and African American students are less than half as likely to make it from 9th grade to a college degree as their peers.
- California’s share of recent high school graduates who enrolled in a four-year college ranked 41st in the nation in 2018, and the vast majority of low-income, Latino, and African American students who complete high school never attend a four-year college.
- California ranks 4th in the country in the share of recent high school graduates who enrolled in a two-year college.
- Low-income, Latino, and African American students are especially underrepresented in the college majors that have the highest labor market returns.

Hanover Research: Social Entrepreneurship Centers
|
|
Hanover Research presents the results of a benchmarking analysis of Social Entrepreneurship Centers, specifically highlighting trends in form and function among seven institutions in the United States. Key findings include:
- Benchmarked centers are generally run by an executive director or program coordinator.
- Most centers offer grants or competitions that may lead to entrepreneurial seed capital.
- Centers are generally funded by alumni donations and philanthropic organizations.
- Most benchmarked centers physically resemble academic departments.
- Five out of seven benchmarked centers offer at least one course for-credit.
- External partnerships may yield programming, funding, or other experiential opportunities for students.

California Adult Education Teacher and Administrator Doctoral Survey
|
|
Crystal Korbas, Doctoral Student in the Educational Leadership at California State University East Bay program, is requesting your assistance by completing a 15-minute survey. The survey was developed in support of her doctor study, “A Critical Review of Adult Education Teacher Preparation and Professional Development: Measuring Racial Identity Development and Teacher Dispositions.” The survey questions address adult education teacher preparation and professional development and specifically in the context of social justice and equity. Advancing Equity Professional Learning Series
The Equity program strand at the CAEP Summit 2020 provided thought-provoking sessions with the goal of engaging in open dialogue and presenting strategies to advance equity in adult education. To continue the dialogue and increase adult education practitioners' capacity, CAEP TAP is hosting a professional learning series titled, Advancing Equity in collaboration with World Education. This three-part series will include a session on implicit bias, strategies to talk about race, and actions steps for programs and teachers addressing racial equity. Each interactive session will build upon one another; it is advised to register for all three for the full experience. The sessions are open to all; however, some sessions are designed for the classroom and program level administration. Review each description and register:
