Introducing the CAEP Summit 2020

Plenary Address Speaker: Dr. Pedro Noguera

Dr. Pedro A. Noguera is the Emery Stoops and Joyce King Stoops Dean of the USC Rossier School of Education. A sociologist, Noguera’s research focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions, as well as by demographic trends in local, regional and global contexts. He is the author, co-author and editor of 13 books and has published over 250 research articles in academic journals, book chapters in edited volumes, research reports and editorials in major newspapers. One of his recent books include Race, Equity and Education: Sixty Years From Brown with Jill Pierce and Roey Ahram (Springer, 2015).

Dr. Noguera firmly believes equity and equality are not synonymous and differentiation between the two concepts is imperative to meet the needs of the “whole” adult learner. His plenary address will reflect on our nation’s current climate (the disruption in education, economic conditions, and social justice) and its impact on adult learners and their families, and the work that is needed as a system to meet learners' needs.

Updated CAEP Beginning of Year Letter to Include The New Quarterly Data Submission Wizard

California Adult Education Program (CAEP)-funded agencies can now begin using the Quarterly Data Submission (QDS) Wizard to submit:

Quarterly TOPSpro Enterprise Data
Quarterly CAEP Data Integrity Report (DIR)

The Quarterly Data Submission Wizard replaces the requirement to use email to submit a copy of the CAEP Data Integrity Report.

Access the instructions for the Quarterly Data Submission Wizard on the CASAS website as well as in the updated CAEP Beginning of the Year Letter. For additional assistance, contact CASAS Technical Support at techsupport@casas.org.

NEW! Educational Device Support Program for Riverside County Public Adult Schools

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved $1,000,000 in CARES Act funding for the establishment of the Educational Device Support Program for Riverside County Public Adult Schools to provide computer devices and hotspots to students to facilitate access to online learning and educational support services. Recipients of this funding include 20 adult schools in Riverside County, representing the following consortia: the ABOUT STUDENTS Regional Consortium for Adult Education, the Southwest Riverside County Adult Education Regional Consortium, and the Desert Regional Adult Education Consortium. The project was sponsored by the Housing, Homelessness Prevention, and Workforce Solutions Division of RWDB.

Senate Bill 68: Expansion of In-state Tuition Eligibility in California

SB 68 expands AB 540 to enable students to count years spent at a California Community College and Adult School towards AB 540 eligibility. Additionally, the bill will allow the completion of an Associate’s Degree or satisfaction of the minimum requirements to transfer to the University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU) to meet the degree or unit requirements. These new eligibility criteria expand possibilities for students educated in CA to qualify for in-state tuition and state based financial aid at CCCs, CSUs, and UCs.
