Interested (or know of anyone interested) in leading a 14-member consortium for the benefit of adult education programs in the Greater Sacramento area? The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and CAERC are searching for its next Director! Some of the duties and responsibilities include:
- Provides a vision and leadership for the ongoing development and day-to-day operations of CAERC;
- Oversees CAERC objectives including key regional strategies and priorities;
- Cultivates partnerships with local industry/businesses, community organizations, public agencies, and education providers;
- And more.
The application deadline is June 2, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. PST.

In this 12-page publication, the Riverside ABOUT STUDENTS Regional Consortium for Adult Education partnered with News and Review to not only tell the story of the strides and innovations the adult education providers are making, but to center the voices of students from each member agency. The powerful student stories include how distance learning is keeping classes in session, the doors that are opened once a learner obtains a high school diploma, the job skills obtained by participating in adult education, and so much.

Federal Communications Commission: Emergency Broadband Benefit
|
|
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more.
About the Emergency Broadband Benefit
The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.

PPIC: Mapping Equitable Access to Math at California’s Community Colleges
|
|
In their latest blog post, as part of a series examining how educational opportunities and outcomes differs across California, PPIC addresses equitable access to math at California’s community colleges. Gateway (or transfer-level) math is one of the largest barriers for students seeking to transfer to a four-year college. Historically, about 80% of California’s community college students started in remedial math or English, and math has been a much larger obstacle to transfer than English. Today, more students than ever start in a gateway math course, but where students live and what college they attend still affect their ability to access these courses.
Community colleges have made tremendous progress under Assembly Bill (AB) 705, which passed in 2017 and overhauled the placement policies that made it harder for students to take and complete gateway courses. PPIC’s recent research found that in fall 2019, the first full term of AB 705 implementation, direct access to gateway math nearly quadrupled systemwide, from 21% in 2015 to 78% in 2019. Successful completion for all first-time math students shot up from 14% to 40% during this timeframe. Importantly, the vast inequities in access to gateway math that existed for Latinos and African Americans prior to AB 705 were nearly eliminated.

CAEP State Priorities' Webinar

In March 2021, the CAEP Office introduced the CAEP State Priorities. California adult education state priorities are aligned with the CCCCO’s Vision for Success goals and CDE’s Adult Education Office State Plan. The state priorities are: Learner Transition, Program Development/Curriculum/Classroom, Equity, Leadership, Technology & Distance Learning, Program Evaluation, and Marketing. To continue to message and address the CAEP state priorities, the CAEP Office and CAEP TAP have invited local practitioners whose program currently align with a state priority to share their practices. California's Post-Pandemic Recovery - Deeper Dive (Program Development)

At the October 2020 CAEP Summit, High Road Alliance presented on the important role adult educators can play in California’s post-pandemic recovery. In this “deeper dive” webinar, come hear reflections on the urgency of this work six months later, learn about several promising practices among California’s adult education consortium, and participate in an engaging discussion about the work ahead. A “peer learning circle” format will be used to hear from you about what you are learning, what is working, and what questions you have of each other.

CASAS Data Dive Series - Part III

CAEP TAP announces three workshops from CASAS that address common data management concerns from CAEP agencies, and that will help CAEP consortia prepare for performance-based goal setting activities in the new CAEP three year plan. During this third session; explore quantitative and qualitative approaches to identifying strengths and needs, and work toward continuous improvement. Explore “quantitative” ways of generating and evaluating agency data. “Qualitative” approaches to engaging both students and staff. Also, how to “put this all together” to generate, follow up, and achieve targeted goals.
