CAEP State Priority Webinars and Peer Learning Circles
| |
CAEP TAP has launched the CAEP State Priority Webinar Series and accompanying Peer Learning Circles (PLCs). In May, the Equity, Technology and Distance Learning and Learner Transition webinars and PLCs will be offered.
The Advancing Digital and Social Justice in Adult Education series will be a three-part focused on the Equity and Technology and Distance Learning State Priority. Digital equity and social justice continue to be hot topics in education. But do we really know what these two concepts entail and how to unpack them in adult education? How often do school, district and state leaders stop to ask what empowers educators to implement culturally responsive strategies and practices? How often do educational entities include and partner with other stakeholders? In this webinar series, we will unpack digital equity, social justice, educator agency, and partnerships to understand their significance in creating inclusive educational spaces and close the digital equity gap. Attendees will engage in rich discussions addressing these topics, and leave with strategies and resources that can be implemented in their respective contexts.
Part I will address the historical context of education, social justice, educator positionality, and teacher agency development.
May 2, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Part II will examine current data on the digital divide, barriers, and strategies. We will be joined by representatives of the San Diego consortium, ByteBack, and the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network who will share their approaches to the following digital equity strategies; digital navigator, technology intake survey, and digital literacy tools.
May 4, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Part III will engage attendees in a lightly-facilitated discussion addressing current digital equity questions.
May 10, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Learner Transition in CA – A Deeper Dive is a two-part series. A goal for adult learners participating in CAEP is to transition to postsecondary education and employment. A critical need identified by practitioners is how to support adult learners with meeting their transition goals. In Part I of this webinar series, the 2021 Supporting Transition from Adult Education to Postsecondary Education and Employment research brief, authored by High Road Alliance, will be re-introduced and you will hear from a panel of practitioners from across the state about the ways in which they are innovating and collaborating to support learners in achieving their transition goals.
May 9, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
In Part II of this webinar series, attendees will engage in a lightly-facilitated discussion to address current questions and strategies to increase learner transition.
May 12, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Advancing CA Adult Education Model Program Nomination Now Open
| |
In 2022, the CAEP Office and CAEP TAP recognized the Inland Adult Education Consortium for meeting the regional need of comprehensive and rigorous professional development. In 2016, the Inland Adult Education Consortium started hosting the regional professional development day and have continued each year. The annual professional development day is divided into two categories: trainings from curriculum/assessment providers, presentations from community partner organizations such as the workforce development board and immigration services, presentations from instructional practitioners on best-practices, and themes that align to the CAEP State Priorities. The professional development helped to level-set the knowledge, skills, and expectations of classified, certificated teachers, and administrators. This annual event draws participants from across Southern California with attendance often exceeding 150 participants. Learn more about this model program, including the unique features of the program and their outcomes, by clicking the link here.
The Advancing CA Adult Education Model Program nomination program is open for 2023! The CAEP Office welcomes nominations of California Adult Education Programs, demonstrating innovative, emerging, or model practices for the Advancing CA Adult Education Award and recognition at California’s CAEP Summit. Model CAEP programs must be aligned to approved CAEP program areas and the adult education state priorities: learner transition, program development, equity, leadership, technology and distance learning, program evaluation, and marketing. The adult education state priorities align with the CCCCO Vision for Success goals and the CDE Superintendent’s Initiatives.
Benefits to participating in the project:
- Showcase a new, emerging, and/or promising program.
- Share practices with other adult education programs and practitioners.
- A video capturing the highlights of the top two scoring programs is created.
- All qualifying program nominations are published on the CAEP website.
- All qualifying program nominations are recognized at the annual CAEP Summit.
- Stories and videos may be highlighted at conferences throughout California and distributed to local, regional, and state officials.
How to participate in the project:
Nominations must highlight a California Adult Education Program (CAEP) approved program area and may be submitted by any CAEP funded agency during the open nomination period. This year’s nomination period is March 1, 2023 - June 30, 2023. All nominations will be reviewed for completeness and for how closely they address the rubric criteria stated on the nomination form. Incomplete nominations and nominations that do not address the rubric criteria will not be considered.
To get started, go to the Request Support page on the CAEP website (caladulted.org) and register as a new user or login to the website. Once logged in, click on the box that says Submit Nomination.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
