CAEP TAP Bids Farewell to their Coordinator, Dr. Veronica Parker

It is with mixed emotions that we say farewell to Dr. Veronica Parker! She has accepted a promotional position as Director, Career Education Programs and Services at a CA community college in the Bay Area. Dr. Parker began her career with the CAEP Technical Assistance Project in 2017 as a Project Specialist before becoming the Coordinator. As a lifelong learner, with a strong passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and access in support of learners achieving their educational goals, she, too, continued her education. She has since earned her M.B.A. in Business Analytics from Drexel University, and most recently her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Urban Education from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Parker has been involved with CAEP TAP since its inception in 2017, providing high-quality technical assistance and professional development to the adult education field in support of CAEP data and accountability. Dr. Parker has been instrumental in the creation of what we know CAEP TAP to be today. During her tenure as Coordinator, Dr. Parker identified a need for the Consortium Leadership Academy (CLA), Targeted Technical Assistance (TTA), and formulated advisory committees to understand the needs of our 71 consortia throughout the State. We have all experienced Dr. Parker’s exemplary work ethic and commitment to helping the field in numerous ways; including NOVA, State policy/guidance, professional development series, peer learning circles, and more.

If you would like to add a farewell message for Dr. Parker, please visit the KudoBoard and click “+Add to Board”. You can leave a text, picture or video message.

As we bid farewell to Dr. Parker as our CAEP TAP Coordinator, we also extend an invitation to welcome Dr. Parker back for future opportunities to collaborate and continue to enrich the Adult Education community. Congratulations and best wishes as you begin your new endeavor!

All the best,

CAEP TAP Team

CSAC Cash for College Programs

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) offers two programs for students attending college, the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are 4 groups of people that can complete the CADAA application; they include undocumented students, folks with or without DACA, people with TPS Status, and U-Visa Holders. If a student doesn't identify with any of those groups, they apply for the FAFSA. Students who are eligible for the FAFSA are US citizens, legal permanent residents, learners with certain designations including Refugee or those granted Asylum, and T-Visa holders.

Input Needed! CA Digital Equity Plan

California wants to hear your thoughts on Digital Equity! California is developing a Digital Equity Plan to ensure equal access to digital technologies, services and resources for all individuals and communities within the state. The goal is to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusion, thereby reducing disparities in digital access, skills, and opportunities. Another goal is to address barriers to digital equity and develop strategies to provide affordable broadband access, promote digital literacy and skills development, and support the use of digital technologies in various sectors such as education, healthcare, workforce development, and civic engagement.

To inform the Digital Equity plan, the California Department of Technology (CDT) has developed two comprehensive digital equity surveys. These surveys aim to identify the barriers and needs of individuals in unserved and underserved communities, informing the State's Digital Equity Plan.

The Digital Equity Survey, to be taken by individuals, is intended to identify the digital equity barriers and needs of California’s residents (everyone, including adult learners). The Digital Equity Ecosystem Mapping Tool, to be completed by agencies, is requesting partners to map their digital equity work to help the State develop an inventory of organizations, programs, funding, and other resources that are, or can be, leveraged to promote digital equity and support the implementation of the Digital Equity Plan.

Access the complete informational letter with additional links to resources here. The deadline to complete the surveys is June 30, 2023. Let your voice be heard!
