CAFE's Multimedia Learning Objects Hit It Big

top 10 MLO Analytics

With just under half a million views during the past academic year, CAFE's Multimedia Learning Objects (MLOs) are making a statement in education! Syntactic Tree Structures by Olga Griswold alone had almost a quarter million visits from all around the globe.

MLOs bring learning to life by combining text, images, animation, and interactivity to create immersive learning experiences. MLOs make abstractions easy to understand and learners can actively explore, experiment, and apply knowledge, resulting in improved retention and deeper understanding.

Check-out our latest projects and experience the power of MLOs:

Arrow Pushing by Taylor Thane, Chemistry & Biochemistry

Cardiac Cycle by Juanita Thompson, Biological Sciences

Differential Leveling by Omar E. Mora, Civil Engineering

Measurement of a Closed Traverse by Allan Ng, Civil Engineering

Canvas Student Name Recordings

Later this summer, Canvas courses will feature a new navigation link, “ Student Name Recordings.” This is CPP's integration of Namecoach. Namecoach profiles foster inclusion in our daily interactions by helping us pronounce names correctly and, if available in someone’s profile, to refer to their appropriate gender identity.

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to add an audio recording, phonetic spelling of their name, and preferred pronouns from any Canvas course as part of their BroncoIdentity. Namecoach profiles can be made available outside of Canvas for use in email signatures, social media, or documents.

QLT - Quality Learning and Teaching

CAFE adopts QLT rubric as the new standard

Beginning this summer, CAFE will promote the CSU Quality Learning & Teaching (QLT) rubric, replacing the Quality Matters framework. QLT supports exemplary practices for course design and delivery for all formats with special focus on hybrid and online offerings. CAFE Instructional Designers will follow the current 2022 (3rd) edition of the QLT rubric. QLT, developed within the CSU, better aligns with CPP's values and needs, and is freely available to all CSU campuses. Get free QLT training in Fall 2023.

Summer Institute 2023 Discovering the Stories

2023 Summer Institute Recap

Nearly 30 CPP and 10 CSU Stanislaus faculty attended CAFE’s Summer Institute 2023: Discovering the Stories: The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) in Your Discipline. During the 5-week synchronous program, faculty identified a research question to investigate in their courses, and created draft IRB project protocols, Informed Consent forms, and syllabus statements to explain the research to their students. We look forward to faculty implementing their research projects in upcoming terms and sharing their findings!

Congratulations to those who completed the USC Equity institute!

Congratulations to 12 CPP faculty and 5 members of CAFE who recently completed the 13-week Spring 2023 Cal Poly Pomona Equity Institute. Facilitated by USC’s Race and Equity-Center, the online Equity-Minded Teaching Institute engaged colleagues in "race-conscious classroom inquiry, a process designed to create the necessary interventions and competencies to advance racial equity for our Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American, and Pacific Islander students."
