Three Nonprofits Receive CAHEC's Open Doors Homeownership Grant

Since 2004, CAHEC has offered the  Open Doors Homeownership Grant  to assist nonprofit organizations who develop for-sale affordable housing within our footprint. To date, CAHEC has awarded $460,000 towards this homeownership initiative to help provide housing to families earning 80 percent or less of the area median income. Each application submitted is carefully reviewed and scored based on their community's need for affordable housing, the social services provided to targeted families, the organization's need for additional funding, and overall goals of the proposal.

Congratulations to the 2016 grant recipients:
  • Habitiat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, Florida, Inc. - The Villages, FL
  • The Housing Partnership, Inc. - Louisville, KY
  • Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity - Murfreesboro, TN
Each of these organizations is making important strides in providing their communities with much-needed affordable housing. To read about the recipients' missions and how their developments will change the lives of their residents, please visit our website.

Our Mission in Action

  • We are pleased to announce the addition of three new employees to the CAHEC family. Please help us welcome George Baker, Britni Edwards, and Ryan Thayer to our Acquisitions Department. Their background and expertise make them a huge asset to the CAHEC team, and we look forward to our partners having the opportunity to work with them in the future.
  • The CAHEC Foundation was proud to be part of NAHMA's Educational Foundation fundraising effort this year. Our $25,000 contribution will provide post-secondary educational scholarships to high school students throughout our footprint.
  • CAHEC was honored to attend the Frame Raising ceremony for Vermilion, a 60-unit new construction community in Durham, NC, serving families earning 60 percent or less of the Area Median Income. This property will be a beautiful addition for the residents in that area.

Our Community Investments staff conducts educational orientations to assist our partners with selecting CAHEC wellness and education grants.
